higher engine capacity means more FC?

Hi peeps.. got a question for the pros here.. me still a bit new to cars la..
currently driving my dad's van which is 1.8... then my new ride will be coming late april.. its a 1.6 cvt sports lancer..
i realised that the stupid van is a drinker.. and its not on diesel.. its on petrol!!
Its a manual Toyota Liteace..
Will the FC of my lancer be better then the van..? I do hope i can save up more $$ after i collect my ride sia~ [/img] -
tho i am not sure whether the van or the car will have better FC.. i can safely say that the lancer is not the most frugal of cars in its class..

FC depends on a few factors, like:
- bigger displacement = higher FC
- automatic transmission = higher FC (than manual)
- bigger tires = higher FC (more friction)
- frequent start-stop city-style driving = higher FC -
underpowered veh=more FC and higher wear and tear of engine

my uncle litace also run on fuel, he pump till his face white.
lancer cvt i use to drive 1, around 10km/l
y nv choose manual, the cvt v laggy, from day 1 i drive it, i already wan to change it. i nv test drive b4 buy. -
Van vs lancer.. results likely to be lancer more economical.. coz lancer is lighter.
If you compair a 1.6 and a 1.8 lancer, likely the 1.8 is more economical. coz a 1.8 engine work less hard than a 1.6 to get the same car moving..
While higher CC do means more fuel required, it also means the engine has more power, work less hard and more likely to run in its most efficient RPM and load.
Its like driving a car wif only 1 driver vs packing 6 person into the same car and drive, which FC higher?

Yes, I agree with the CVT lancer part. I've test driven the CVT lancer.. and (sorry to CVT lancer owners) it SUXX!! (dun believe me? go floor one and u'll think the car is going to fall apart! And not becos its a test drive car.. I would have thought the car I drove is spolit!) If anyone is considering buying a lancer at all, kindly consider the manual.. and for God's (or Alla, Budda...etc) sake.. please test drive the darn car b4 u buy! In fact, go test drive ALL other cars in the same price range too, this way.. less likely you will make expensive mistakes! No test drive car? DUN BUY! -

btw.. im not sure if it is 100% bigger displacement means poorer FC.
Take a look at car mags they list the FC there... some bigger CC engines actually drink lesser! -

FC depends mainly on your driving habit. Driven hard all the time any car drinks. Adapt to traffic condition with minimum acceleration and braking and you should get maximum efficiency on FC.

larger capacity does not always equate higher fc.
think of an engine as a muscle, and fuel as nutrients/chemicals which moves that muscle.
compare a big muscle (bigger cc) and small muscle (smaller cc), and assume that each is as efficient in converting energy per unit size. a bigger muscle COULD move a bigger load and consume MORE nutrients at the same time. likewise, a smaller muscle COULD move a smaller load and consume LESS energy in doing so. on the other hand, it is also possible for a big muscle to move a small load and consume less energy compared with a small muscle which has to haul a huge load.
but now, if i had the same big muscle which is injured, and is not able to convert energy as efficiently as it would (as in the case of a poorly designed/ poorly conditioned engine). now, it would consume more energy to move the same load compared to a perfectly healthy smaller muscle (as in the case of engines equipped with vvti, vtc, vvtl-i, vtec, i-vtec etc) .
it is therefore an inconclusive statement 2 say that bigger cc equates higher fc. -
higher Cc may not turn to high FC. cos if your car is properly ratio in term of power to weight it will perform better then smaller Cc cars. cos due to the tax structure in singapore alot of cars are tuned to smaller Cc in order for good sales here.
like sunny it 1.6 here at us it 1.8 or 2.0 that why pple complain that sunny is slow high FC and etc. but sometimes it also the driver that matter. driving slow and low RPM dont turn out to be better in FC. a car is design to run at a certain RPM to produce enough power to move the car. going at low RPM will onli restrict it from performing at peak, in return it will comsume more petrol cos take longer time to reach the crusing speed and the correct gear.
alot of pple think slowly drive will save, i everyday drive at higher rpm my FC turn out to be better then those driving the same model car at lower RPM. plus i am driving 60city 40highway. driving pattern matter more then slowly driving. -
