What should the Singapore government do either in promotion or legislation to encourage more hyrbrid users here??!! Thank you for your opinions.

1stly, an infrastructure to support the useage of such cars, which may run on hydrogen power, fuel cells, electric motors etc.
2ndly, legislations should be altered to promote the use of such cars, perhaps with import tax subsidaries on their usage, and waiver of, or subsidising of ERP gantry fees.
Finally, besides hybrids, govt can also look at promoting the use of diesel models of family saloons, which have a much lower fuel consumption and are more economical to run, thru reviewing the legislation on the import of diesel cars. -

actually gvt dun even need to subsideze anything... they just need to reduce the "stupidly too much tax and COE" which is much more than the actual car price. we're paying 60k+ for the car that is worth less than 20k.
so if a hybrid car or any green car that cost maybe 30k and if ppl can drive with similar or less price than similar class normal car, then we'll see many green promoting ppl driving those.
diesel, i can understand for 6x more tax due to pullution concerns in old times, but nowadays the passenger diesel cars emit less byproducts. so should reduce...
but hor, our dear gahmen dun want to let the pie cut out and enjoy less.. that is the real problem. -

i think the gahmen will continue to milk the current system for all it's worth until limited resources compels the common man to stop buying conventional petroleum powered vehicles or unless external political pressure makes certain headway.
face it, even if they wanted to encourage the influx of hybrids by reducing the (ridiculous) current prices for such cars, there is simply no infrastructure to support its growth locally. to do so would require both the local authorities and foreign alternative fuel/car makers to strike a decent deal to develope on this area. i'd very much like 2 see the gahmen move away from its comfort zone on this issue. -
gahmen wont do anything that doesnt absolutely need doing.. lazy to move or reluctant to move outta comfort zone.. i dunno..
also.. i guess the singaporean mentality plays a part too... if they dun earn from it.. or dun benefit from.. u can let them noe all the pros the action taken will bring upon.. and they still will not budge..
one fine day we might all be driving kangoos and combos on the road... and lane one is the sole domain of the filthy rich..

i thought hybrid cars still run on petrol. they only save petrol by using an electric motor for accelerating from standstill and low speeds. the battery is charge with the energy released everytime the car brakes. at high speeds the petrol engine takes over. =/

Hybrid cars are going to be the next tech breakthrough that will save a lot of fuel. Then the Electric car will rule. In the end it will be the solar powered ones. But still a long way to g.

Might be true to a certain extent.. This has always been a chicken and egg problem. Without the apporpriate infrastructure to support these hybrids/ electric/ cng vehicles, the masses cannot be expected to embrace the technology. Between the 2, it's my opinion that the govt has the resources to break this cycle.
Of course, Singaporeans in general, have always been, sadly, an apathetic lot. Without significant benefits, most are unlikely to budge.
Of course, those enjoying the high life (I believe there's no need to name them) are a lot less likely to do so since 'significant' to them is a windfall to the masses. Perhaps an equivalent to a catastrophe is what we need to get everyone's fanny adams moving. -
