What if you mix??Originally posted by AE86tofu:oh yea....dun use DOT3 for brake fluid...use DOT4....its better...change it only when u replace brake fluid since when u replace brake fluid must bleed the whole system....cos DOT3 and 4 cannnot mix
50% chance will react to form DOT 7 also haaOriginally posted by tofushop193:become DOT 3.5...hahhaha

power steering and clutch fluid: almost never need to change. juz top up periodically.Originally posted by melnruru:Hi guys there,
For car steering wheels fluid, brake fluid, etc how soon must we change it. My car is just 3months old.
As for coolant fluid, is it necessary to prevent it from overheating. Some mechanics told me water is good enough no need coolant. pLs advise.![]()
agreed man...even my 20 year old 7-ton gets distilled water.....Originally posted by tailslide:power steering and clutch fluid: almost never need to change. juz top up periodically.
brake fluid: differing opinions, but generally, the harder u work ur brakes, the sooner u have to start replacing them. like engine oil, brake fluids are subjected to temperature changes. the more often u brake hard for long durations, u increase the chemical deteriotion of the fluid. beyond this, the brake fluid boils and leaves "air pockets", reducing pedal feel and increasing braking difficulty. recommend changing new fluid every 30k under normal driving condition.
coolant: normal water contains chemicals, which will corrode the interior of ur radiator and form deposits within water channels of the engine. distilled water comes 2nd best compared to modern day coolants. u better think twice bout visiting the same mechanic who told u normal water is okay. next time tell him put green tea better.![]()
Actually, I have been topping up the carina with tap water for as long as I remember.Originally posted by tailslide:coolant: normal water contains chemicals, which will corrode the interior of ur radiator and form deposits within water channels of the engine. distilled water comes 2nd best compared to modern day coolants. u better think twice bout visiting the same mechanic who told u normal water is okay. next time tell him put green tea better.![]()
they dun make radiators like wad they used to. older cars (specially toyotas) are virtually indestructable in this aspect.Originally posted by Praetorian111:Actually, I have been topping up the carina with tap water for as long as I remember.![]()
true....esp the hilux....Originally posted by tailslide:they dun make radiators like wad they used to. older cars (specially toyotas) are virtually indestructable in this aspect.
It is advisable to check the level of fluids, coolant and engine oil in your engine bay regularly. In additional check whether your tyres are inflated.Originally posted by melnruru:Hi there,
Thanks for so much advise and feedback. One last thing is I have not top up coolant for 3 months already. Is it ok?
topping up on essential fluids is part and parcel of maintaining ur vehicle. it doesn't matter if u have not topped up anything for the past 3, 6 or even 9 months as long as the fluids are at the correct level. only way is to check for urself.Originally posted by melnruru:Hi there,

Might a "high class coolant" such a Martell VSOP, Chivas or Vodka would be even better...Originally posted by tailslide:power steering and clutch fluid: almost never need to change. juz top up periodically.
