Can someone please help me..
i wanna get myself a car but can anyone tell me whether to get a
1st hand car?? 2nd hand?? COE left 2-3year?? COE car???
Which is more worth it now???
i just wanna transport to take me from 1 place to another..
1litre to 1.3litre is good enough for me liao..
my budget is ard 30000 the most...
but of course cheaper the better i dun mind taking COE car but dunno whether got problem a not..
So wanna find out which one more worth it..
And can anyone tell me what you all mean by OMV and what is paper money???
How you all calculate???

i personally dun trust m'sia makes.... not reliable.. nothing remarkable -
Cars left with 2 or 3 yrs are normally those problematic ones. Anyway, they mostly cost around $13000-18000 for a 1 litre to 1.3 litre car.

Les then 10 people are capable of answering your specific questions becasue half of them don't even know whats paying with their own money and working out finances. I suggest you visit www.mycarforum.com where the real adults will be gladly answer your questions on how to calculate depreciation, paper value, and dealers profits. How long you want the car to last? 30k for a 7 year-old year and 30k for a new car is a lot of different. Your 30k is 1 shot or installment spread over serveral years?Originally posted by namtab:......

go to the car showroom. dress well. then ask a sales executive for help. they will gladly bring u through all the different numbers. of course u hafta look like u are actually going to buy the car.

If you really just need a transport only, and dun really mind what kind of car, maybe you can consider this kinda car.
We take this car for example........ its register in Jun 2001, so basically the car still has 5 years and 2 mnths + left.
The car is sold at 21800, and the OMV is 11523. For a 2001 car, the parf (money that you get back when 10 yrs is up, COE expired) should be 65% of 11523, which works out to be abt SGD 7490.00.
So basically, 7490 is the money u get back....... and take away from 21800 .... (21800-7490), you will lose 14310 in 5 yrs 2 mnths........ (5 yrs 2 mnths = 62 mnths) so a mnth you will lose 14310/62 = $230. so a year, the depreciation will be 230x 12..... SGD2760.00 a year!!!
I think it will fit you perfectly. Of cos, when buying a 2nd hand car.... u yrself got to determine its condition (that i can't tell from the picture). The wira maintenance will be cheap too cos there are tons of spare parts across the causeway. I believe it should be a btter buy then COE car, which will have a depreciation of 3k a year too mostly.

Take this civic GL for example, its left 5 years 4 mnth and the depreciation is 15800. Meaning that it will have a depreciation SGD 2962.00 a year too. And the car is 15 yrs old, compared to the wira which is 5 yrs old. Of cos, you might be paying slighly more interest for the wira then the honda only. But, you will save on the road tax.... cos COE car rd tax will be higher........
