Improving Fuel Efficiency ...

Any ideas ? .... I'm pretty much a noob ... other than changing a spare tire and pumping petrol, I don't know much else ....
but I'm getting rather bad fuel efficiency on my second hand car, which has rather high milage already .....
anything I can do to improve fuel efficiency ? .... the car's pissing away petrol like a platoon of peeing NS boys after a water parade ....

make sure yr tires r properly inflated.

There are some born drinker but there are still some ways of saving FC. like being light-footed, no higher than 2.5k rpm. dun drag engine.off air-con... dun wind down window etc. its all in habit of driving. Free-gear on down slope(not recommanded for some drivers) Tyre alighnment has to be in good condition...pump up the air in the tyre. Once in a blue moon go clear carbon. choosing a better quality petrol etc. -
i got a plymouth acclaim, a GM brand, 2.5 litre, but it this model is used by some taxi companies in fact, so I think fuel efficiency should be pretty okay at least. Yes, like what other bro had said.
Remove spare tyre, change gear at 2-2.5k rpm, max speed at 80-90 km/h, do more expressway driving, avoid potential traffic jam routes, light foot, travel alone, off aircon but wind down window a bit if not will die of oxygen, remove unnecessary heavy stuffs from the boot, check tyre pressure, regular servicing.
Using good fuel grade for old car is a waste of $$.
If all the above have been tried and drinking problem still persist, scrape the car and buy a new one. -
Don't turn on aircon, don't wind down windows either.

I'm thinking of some preventive maintenance, but does better fuel really help ? ... higher octane ? ....
or one of those with "detergents" added ? ... -
I think it all boils down to individual habits, just ask wuming78 what he gets out of his honda.

my fren used to complaint his lancer drinks fuel like water draining... says he gets 12-13km/lit... coz his bike used to get 40km/lit before driving... i scolded him...
so what is the car's consumption??? he haven't mentioned yet.. it depends on your car.. -

but like I said, this car is still use by some taxi companies as their fleet car, so I suppose the consumption shouldn't be that bad at all, despite it being an American car .....
I'm fishing around for a sort of maintenance solution actually, with fuel prices the way they are now, it's starting to hurt my budget ..... -
