The old way of classifying will mean 1st world democracy, 2nd world communism.
The new way will be 1st world industrialised nations, 3rd world less developed countries. -

Hey SG folks, I'm a Chinese Malaysian who stays in Petaling Jaya but I have cross border ties with SG, and every year I travel to SG for CNY reunion and for Christmas. I can update you about the Malaysian government foreign policies especially on SG.
Here is the news update on the RM20 levy from Bernama new agency dated 12 May 2006.
Singapore cars going into Malaysia are expected to start paying the RM20 levy in one month or two.
Malaysian Deputy Home Minister Tan Chai Ho said this on Saturday, according to Bernama news agency.
He said that the levy would be enforced as soon as the amendment to the Road Transport Act providing for this is gazetted.
The Minister added that he anticipated the levy could be enforced by the Immigration Department in one month or two.
The amendment was endorsed by Malaysia's Parliament recently.
The Minister said that the levy would be charged as the cars depart Johor and the quantum would be based on the number of entries and not the period of stay.
"If a car stays in this country for a week, the levy is only RM20 but if it makes three entries in a day, the total levy is RM60," he said. - CNA/ir -

RM20 ENTRY FEE FOR SINGAPORE VEHICLES
It is widely anticipated that a lot of Singaporean motorist, especially those that made casual visits to shop; dine; visit ; fueling would give Malaysia a miss, once this entry fee is implemented. The lure of the so-called cheaper alternatives will no longer be true as traders there have taken cognizance of the recent fuel hike which have seen prices gone up in tandem. Those with business undertakings and possibly the unfortunate Singapore PR holders who drives Singapore registered vehicles would possibly continue to do so. It would not make economic sense to do so with this disincentive, over and above the pathetic perennial congestion problem at the causeway. The constant fear of ones safety and the safety of our precious cars are further significant considerations. It has also been said by many, that this proposed entry fee, is akin to having to PAY to enter a shopping complex where good MONEY is expected to be SPENT !!
The phenomenal slaying of the golden goose, has strangely escaped the tourist promotion people in JB.
