hmm...compared to a wide ratioed gearbox..the Civic now not meant for racing anymoreOriginally posted by n0x:less than a sec.. 1 sec is too jia lat liaoz...
lets juz say it is slow enough to be noticable.. and its veh disturbing considering how 1 is used to the instantaneous respond of a manual...
I don't think singapore roads designed for racing also.Originally posted by ceecookie:hmm...compared to a wide ratioed gearbox..the Civic now not meant for racing anymore![]()
i think i replied to u in the other civic thread.. tt i said if the new civic has 5 gear to play ard...i wun space the ratios out too widely...Originally posted by ceecookie:hmm...compared to a wide ratioed gearbox..the Civic now not meant for racing anymore![]()
i tink wide ratio means the diff in the rpm beween each gear is too high?Originally posted by n0x:i think i replied to u in the other civic thread.. tt i said if the new civic has 5 gear to play ard...i wun space the ratios out too widely...
what do u mean by wide ratioed gearbox anyways![]()
I disagree with your view. I see semi auto gearbox not shifting up when hitting rev limit as a limitation, not "Truer" semi-auto. Whats the point of bouncing on your rev limiter when the car should go faster by shifting up to the next higher gear?Originally posted by n0x:but some semi autos change up for u when u rev too high even when u in manual mode... civic one wun.. so u forgot to shift then the engine will be screaming its head off... civic one is much TRUER in the sense....but i wun look much into it..![]()
its not my view.. is what i quote off a review.. cos the author say its more realistic than most "auto shifters in manual mode"and u will see the the needle dancing at the redline... guess u misunderstood me..Originally posted by siaokao:I disagree with your view. Anyway, the civic paddle shift I believe is still based on auto gearbox with "manual" gear selection. "True" semiauto (or semi manual) such as SMG (BMW), DSG (VW Group), e-gear (Lambo) and Selespeed (Alfas, Fiats) are based on manual gearboxes using real clutch, not torque convertors.
Manual is not as instantaneous as u think they are. You feel this way coz u are "doing something" i.e. shifting the gears urself.. in semi-autos, u "feel" the "Lag" coz u are not doing anything.. simply waiting for "robot arm" to do its job. In fact, DSG can change gear faster than most drivers can shift a manual box.. 50ms per shift, never miss.. juz abt enuf time to blink ur eyes. Try beat that!Originally posted by n0x:less than a sec.. 1 sec is too jia lat liaoz...

No matter wad there is still loss of power....the tranny is where most of the power is lost....which is Y some manyfacturers say their car is eg 150BHP at the wheel....meaning that the car is dynoed at the wheel instead of at the flywheelOriginally posted by ceecookie:DSG i heard from torque its like changing gear w/o loss of power...
its only in the Golf GTI?
but then torque said that the GTI ran out of puff at higher revvs, which dampen the fun of the DSG and GTI![]()
