altis engine is from Japan, so there's no worries about it. but the finishing and build quality is not there. alot of small small problems so have to keep going back to BM for rectification. FC average 12.5. only comes in AT, and the FL now is abit sucky, no bodykits and if u change HU u cannot use the steering wheel controls (that's what i heard) The engine is made for the 1.8L version, so u might find the 1.6 underpowered. Thai made, so its damn cheap to find parts and accessories for it
for the lancer go for the MT, its pretty powerful and good FC, heard about 14km/L. but i would think twice about using a outdated engine. correct me if i'm wrong but its SOHC ? the interior looks quite cheapo (no offences lancer owners) without climate control. Popular car so modding is not a problem too.
just my 2cents worth on the 2 cars i have experiences in lar. BTW, Altis may not be so much of an ah pek's car if u mod it the right way. the Lancer is more of a young man car to me.

Hi bro, I always go to their car forum to ask for feedback. Seriouly there are not many choice if you campare on FC, comfort, handling, finishing and build quality. It's what you are looking for, and the joy you are getting from yr ride. Most important to me is the engine reliability and cost of parts. Car like Proton may be very cheap but not many ppl prefer it. And base on the sale chart, it tell you the story after all, if you want to be different then prepare to pay the for price.
Conti car is good to drive but there are some electrical fault, sometime light on here and there and difficult to trouble shoot eg. ESP I think?, and the parts is very ex. Can't mod to much also, and no resale value. Seem like those got ESP are difficult to sell cos of the price, Just went to ford and they tell me have discount for old stock! "how old?" I ask. 2005 production! Orh! I just see see and walked out of the show room. Citroen C4 is also not selling well either although it is at $59k.
The best is get something less headache one, I dun mine the finishing is poor cost it's cheap to repair, but come to engine the cost of repair is more and you don't see anything after spending the money. To me comfort and handling is still the main factor.
Now if you buy car, dont think of resale value too much cos new car is too cheap and dealer margin is less than 10k for some of them. So prepare to drive up to 6-7 yrs, so buy something more reliable cos the cost of repair is getting very ex nowadays.

Honda Edrix, Honda Airwave or Toyota Wish if your prefer hatchback or SUV car. If you like sedan car will be Honda Civic, Subaru wrx or Mitshibitsu lancer. If you wan a performance car in disguise will skoda with passat 's engine installed. All those cars are budget and good ones therefore can consider.
