need some help....can we keep scrap cars?

Hi, like to get some advice from some experienced ppl here. A friend is scrapping his car & I'm thinking of buying over to keep for spares.
Can we keep scrap cars in private carparks (for salvaging spare parts)? Also, what is the minimum for a car to be scrapped..eg. just removing engine block? (cos I would like to keep as much of the car as possible for parts, after scrapping). Thanks...

To scrap a car.
1. Chassis with correct chassis number
2. Engine Block minimum with engine number. You can keep the head and intake and exhaust manifold all that.
When u scrap a car with LTA, they will need verfication from the scrap yard after a certain period of time. The scrap yard must be in possession of the car else if discovered, they will be fined.
You cannot keep a scrap car. LTA doesnt allow that.
What u can do is strip out all the parts u want and find a place to store them.
If you want to keep it. You have to deregister the car, register your car with LTA as a de-registered car.
They will want you to provide information on where the car will be stored.(they will do spot checks) And should you want to move it, you need to ask permission from LTA and tow it around.

I've called up LTA hotline, but they told me I can't keep a car after deregistering it. Maybe they didn't understand what I was asking exactly..but anyway couldn't get any useful info from them.
You mentioned that it is possible to store the vehicle after deregistering it....can you elaborate on the procedures and things I need to do, cos I can't seem to find this info anywhere (LTA website doesn't say anything about storing a dereg. vehicle)...Thanks again..

Hello. I think you can mention to LTA that you wish to keep it as a track car and ask for advice.
This is the only way u can still keep a car after de-reg it.
But maybe you would like to share with us more on your situation? Keeping a track car totally doesnt make sense if you wish to keep it just for parts. I dont think that you should go thru the hassle just for the car's spare parts. There are many alternatives.
What car is your friend scrapping?
What parts you want to keep? try to list out as detailed as possible.
Do you have a private place where you can keep the car? ie. Private housing, factory, warehouse etc. -
Hrm... just something interesting I saw... You have to register with the LTA for DE-registering your car??

yah...tts the irony of it
cos they want to make sure you dun use it. So u register with them and tell them where it will be and they will spot check. if u need to move it, u need to inform them.
