Steps for filling up petrol

Hi. What are the typical steps and precautions you carry out when you drive into a petrol station and fill up ?
Lets say you rent a car which is filled with Shell Formula 95. Can you fill up at another petrol station? Lets say SPC with ULG 92 ? Can mix grades or brand when there is still petrol in the tank ?
Sorry for my super noob questions!

yes you can mix grades and brands of petrol...it doesn't matter.

As for grades & brand , it can be mixed, frankly oversea most people are using 90-92 , so all car in the market can use 92 grade .
You can mixed the petrol in the tank no problem. -

Hmm where can you find leaded petrol here nowadays?
Ya you generally almost all cars here can use 92, but don't be surprised if let's say your car usually or suppose to run on 98 but the engine starts to "ping" when using 92. Not much harm but not recommended in the long run. -

Pinging sounds like rocks being thrown around inside your engine. It will never happen at idle, may happen at part throttle, but is most likely to happen at full throttle. It is usually accompanied by a small amount of smoke out of the tailpipe, but don't rely on that.
Pinging is like... taking a cutting torch to your combustion chamber. Your engine can stand anywhere from less than one second to perhaps minute of pinging before it suffers permanent and serious damage, depending on conditions.
The hotter your engine is, the more likely your engine is to ping. The farther your timing is advanced, the more likely your engine is to ping. The higher your compression ratio is, the more likely your engine is to ping. The lower the octane of gas you use, the more likely your engine is to ping.
So, in order to minimize the risk of pinging, do the following:
Make sure your engine doesn't over heat!
Make sure your timing is not too far advanced.
Make sure your compression ratio is not too high (< 7.5 to 1)
If necessary, use higher octane gas.
If you take care of the first three, you shouldn't have to worry about the last one.

Erm... I never switch off the petrol. I just pull handbrake, get out of car, pay money, pump, and go off. Can anot ah? Ya, but I never smoke inside pump station, safe enuf mah...

make sure put nozzle back before driving off.
