1st gear to 2nd gear...

When you are moving off from a traffic light.
You engage 1st gear, half cluth and move off. Do you fully realease the clutch and move a while more b4 changing to 2nd or immediately change to 2nd once the car has started to move ? -
u can, but its always advisable to slowly release the clutch in 2nd gear to ensure a smooth ride and longer life for ur gearbox.

It depends on your personal driving habits lah... whether you want a smooth ride or faster acceleration... it also depends on your car.... for high end sports cars, they allow you to reach 60-70km/h with your 1st gear.... dun really remember the figures, but it's really a lot of speed with your first gear....

So if you are driving a slow ass car and there's ppl honking at you from the back you kick it into 2nd once u start to move ?..haha

Accelerate the car to some decent speed first before changing to 2nd gear.
Most of the time i drive till 30-40 km/h then change gear.

When I hear my engine beckons, then I change gears.

i 15-20 change to 2nd gear liao.. den around 25-30 change to 3rd..

I always thought that changing gears doesn't really depend on speed as different cars have different gear ratios (rpm vs speed).
When I was driving a manual transmission car....for normal driving from first gear, I just brought the rpm up to 2000+ rpm, then switched to second.
For spirited driving, then its different lah (then you have to know the torque characteristics of your car). -
Oh and its not really a good idea to not fully release the clutch too because it wears out the clutch (although I know many of us actually don't fully release the clutch in 1st gear).
Anyway, changing clutch in manual transmission cars is not expensive or inconvenient lah (I changed a few times liow). -
When i feel the car 'no strength' i will change gear.
