And the prize for being in it, a brand new toyota hilux.Originally posted by sgboy2004:maybe your friend will appear in candid camera
ur friend is those kind who treats his vehicle like a treasure but there are people who treat theirs just as a means of transport...and a SFX plate doesnt really mean a new car...Originally posted by ShutterBug:Ok, now that you're in here and reading, let me explain that my definition of Door Dimple is the kind of dents, you normally get from neighboring parked vehicle opening their door too hard and wide, that it hits your car broadside.
I have a friend who lives in my HDB block. He is a regular business owner doing small time trading goods and services, half Ah Beng half English educated. He drives a very well kept Toyota Hiace van which he polishes every week.
One day, he went to a nearby marketplace to have a meal (dinner or lunch I can't remember now). When he got there, he found a vacant lot and reversed into it. Shortly after he parked and turned off his engine, another car (a new Kia - something I can't remember also) reversed into the lot next to him. Before he could get out of his van, the driver of the Kia (a middle aged guy with his assumably, wife) swung open his door very hard and banged against the left side of his van. In shock, he got out quickly to go take a look at his left side panel; not surprisingly, he sees a very deep indentation caused by the other party's car door. He looked at the dent and then turn around to look at the driver. The guy and his wife just walks away towards the market like nothing happened at all!
My friend stood there watching him walk away, contemplated chasing him down and giving him a few nice knuckle burgers, but thought better not to get involved in a Police case. So he walks around this middle aged guy's car and noted that for a car that has a plate starting with SFX (very new) it sure has a lot of dents and scratches (the kind of scratches you normally get from keys) and its rear end has already been collided into.
So since he noted the other side of the guy's car was already scratched from back to front, he contributed another long back to front scratch with his van's keys. He said out loud after scratching; "An eye for an eye.." and drove off somewhere else.
Personally, what makes a person so brazen as to swing his door so hard and wide that it damages neighboring vehicles? And why is he treating his new car so carelessly? What more, he was aware that my friend was still in the van and yet swung his door. ANd my friend looks like am Ah Long bill collector! The old man isn't afraid of getting beaten to a pulp??
After I was told this incident, I couldn't stop wondering why is this person so "fearless"?
I sincerely doubt, my friend has stepped out of line. I know he won't bite if no one steps on his tail.Originally posted by Xcert:ur friend is those kind who treats his vehicle like a treasure but there are people who treat theirs just as a means of transport...and a SFX plate doesnt really mean a new car...
personally I also dun like those people who must open their car doors wide wide but then unless I have my own parking lot at all times....this kind of thing cannot be helped...even when U travel on the road sometimes...stones might fly up and hit the chassis...so it would be difficult to prove that the dent is caused by the car driver unless really have proof...a picture of the dent is not going to be very helpful...
ur friend actually vandalised the car...and that is a criminal case...
whatever that car driver did, doesnt give your friend the right to scratch his car. Your friend should confront him right on the spotOriginally posted by ShutterBug:I sincerely doubt, my friend has stepped out of line. I know he won't bite if no one steps on his tail.
I mean, if you are in your car and someone parked next to you and swings his door open and it slams against the side of your car so hard you can feel your car rock, you can be damn sure the dent you see when you get out to inspect is VERY much caused by his action. And not from a flying debris from driving on our roads. I saw the dent myself, and it's an outlines of a car door's corner edge. It's also very deep - angular.
Well, what can I say, besides inconsiderate motorists I now come to believe there more psychotic people on our roads than before.
actually i've found thats its normally not the drivers but the passengers that do this kind of thingsOriginally posted by dragg:i thought the guilty ones are the lorry and pick up drivers.
this is also true.Originally posted by hisoka:actually i've found thats its normally not the drivers but the passengers that do this kind of things
the drivers being in a similar situation are more considerate and thoughtful. the idiot passengers on the other hand(esp the females and the children)..........
It would turn very ugly if he confronts the senseless guy....Originally posted by nick34:whatever that car driver did, doesnt give your friend the right to scratch his car. Your friend should confront him right on the spot
It is quite true that passengers sometimes contribute to the dents on your cars.Originally posted by dragg:this is also true.
i have seen it many times.
hey kids no brain i'm fine but the women........... some of them anyway.Originally posted by ShutterBug:It is quite true that passengers sometimes contribute to the dents on your cars.
But one thing to also note; Mercedes, BMW, or any continental car, their doors are rather heavy actioned. Meaning, you need to really puch to open the doors. Hence, to a kid, they may just over exert not aware of neighboring cars and it swings open wide impacting against the car next to it.
Apart from kids, (dare I say..) women passengers also over exert causing the door to swing open wide and hard.
This happened to my working van once; a Mercedes driven by a malay guy with his children behind. He parked next to my van while I was inside waiting for my colleague. His kid swung the door open and it banged agains the railing of my van's sliding door. He was alarmed that his kids did that, got out and profusely apologized to me, noting a small dent (very faint) and asking me how much does it cost. I said to him, forget it, they are kids and it is small van. Then I said; lucky this isn't my other vehicle a Jaguar.... He laughs and I laughed and he thanked me for the udnerstanding.
But personally, I feel that this episode would have been different if it were a Chinese guy and his kids....
I get what U mean but lets put it this way...Originally posted by ShutterBug:I sincerely doubt, my friend has stepped out of line. I know he won't bite if no one steps on his tail.

the dents dont get filled up....they get knocked back by the mechanic and sent for repaint.Originally posted by freakass:Anyone knows if it's possible to get rid of these dents? Let's say after 3 years of using your car, u decide to give it a new look.... does it mean i have to bring it to the mechanic and let him fill up the dents and then send the whole car for a new coat of paint?
to a certain extent...I feel that the driver have a moral obligation to remind the passengers to open the door gently...after all..it would benefit both parties...Originally posted by ShutterBug:It is quite true that passengers sometimes contribute to the dents on your cars.
I dun think an asshole has anything to do with race.Originally posted by ShutterBug:It is quite true that passengers sometimes contribute to the dents on your cars.
