when stationary on the slope facing up, pull on the handbrake.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Hi all,
Am learning driving now. My instructor uses a Mazda 323 (Manual) to teach.Have not been attending lessons for awhile since June,July. I need some tips on proper vehicle control when going up slope. As I've got a tendency to step hard on the accelerator and end up getting a earful from the bastard of an old man.So yeah..can any kind sould please help me? As I'm really sian whenever I encounter slopes near traffic light, when the car has to stop and I've to like start from Gear 1, cuz I fear rollback.
Thanks!
Thanks alot, cuz I always face problem at those super long slopes at Ubi area.Originally posted by newcomer:when stationary on the slope facing up, pull on the handbrake.
1)apply clutch
2)shift to gear 1
3)slowly release clutch until you can feel the engine vibrate or you can feel the car's tendency to move forward
4)release the handbrake
5)right after releasing the handbrake, step on the fuel and release the clutch gradually and simultaneously.
If the slope is steep, apply slight pressure on the accelerator and make sure the rpm meter is not above 1500rpm. Because at 3) when you release your clutch but not stepping on the acc, your rpm will drop. that's ok but don't let it drop too much until it kills your engine. you have to know your car. Usually, a car's idle rpm is at 1000rpm.

wtf? if roll back the first thing u want to do is step on the brake! the car will swerve if you turn the steering...Originally posted by SpecOps87:Thanks alot, cuz I always face problem at those super long slopes at Ubi area.
And also its very scary coz behind got other ppl's car. But in the event that the car actually rolls back, what should I do? Coz the old bastard was telling me that if brake or wat might cause it to swerve
the vehicle doesn't slip, it's the clutch. that's when you can hear the loud revving right? in any case, i think you're either stepping too much on the acc(you don't have to hear the engine rev to know that you're actually applying fuel), or not releasing enuf on the clutch. you should release the clutch at the point where you think if you release more, the engine will stall, get it?Originally posted by SpecOps87:Juz todae, cuz was turning towards Eunos area, there's this long slope. So when the light turn green, i release clutch alittle, den accelerator step abit, and hand brake down, but the vehicle seems to be like slipping and thats when i panicked...
dude you seriously need to change instructor. hey if you feel you are not up to it for the november test, tell me. i want to book your space can? cuz mine at feb...Originally posted by SpecOps87:Honestly, he seems to be slping or dozing off in the car, nabei, once he even reeked of alcohol and thats just like 1+ in the afternoon. He didn't say anything bout going up slopes, just that step on the accelerator slightly more then usual and I will be able to go over...So its like wtf lor...
Just curious, is it possible to retain my test date if I change instructor? As my test date is coming up in the period of November. Thanks!
If u r in first gear and the engine stalled and u did not clutch in, the car won't roll backwards.Originally posted by newcomer:wtf? if roll back the first thing u want to do is step on the brake! the car will swerve if you turn the steering...
when your car rolls back, i assume your engine has stalled, right? switch off your aircon and shift to neutral. apply handbrake. start the engine and repeat the process lor.
yea you're right, i missed that out. check edited post.Originally posted by spec:If u r in first gear and the engine stalled and u did not clutch in, the car won't roll backwards.

So far the rest are okay, its only the slope. So yeah...Originally posted by sir_boris:Then what's stopping you from changing instructor? I suppose he's one of those pte one right?
what's the point of keeping the test date if you've not been taught abt driving proper. learn how to drive properly and you got years ahead driving.
till then stay cool ya.
Scold him back. You pay to learn, not to get scolding. You must be patient and the key point on most new learners is they let go the clutch too fast......n they always have this fear that car will die off and roll back...Originally posted by SpecOps87:Hi all,
