Our chinese fren, Shanghai Automotive, which was unsuccessful in buying rover earlier this year, has decided to create a premium sub-brand in its fleet, a la lexus for toyota, called......sit tight...
ROEWE (i think this is the spelling)
i read this in the awsj today. even their logo looks suspiciously similar, but with 2 lions on the badge.
whilst they took pains, in the article to explain that Roewe is not Rover and the pronunciation is different, it once again prove the chinese still lags and lacks creativity in this respect. we have the HK peninsula hotel replica in china, toyota copycats, and now the brands is not spared....
funny in china, if u go to the electronic shop and ask for iPOD (jus for the heck of it), the sales person will ask u to buy `China iPOD' instead. it's about 1/8 the price of an ipod, chassis looks exactly the same, only it is not touch sensitive when u work the volume.
but to create a roewe but u cannot by rover is kicka$$ to say the least....

'Chery', the china car brand, is also deemed to be named after 'Chevy'. Chery sounds quite like chevy doesn't it?
Chery QQ is actually the china version of Chevrolet Spark.
