about petrol type 92, 95, 98

Hi all..,
i little bit confuse about petrol type.
the type i know is 92, 95, 98, is this type all available in pretol kios say in shell, mobil1, petronas, spg, etc..
then what is the main diff between this type ?
is that true if you use the highest, 98, ur engine life more last long ?
is that true if you can't use the lowest, 92, for luxury car, say bmw 320i?
another question :
is that true is better not too frequent (say once a day) open the ... (cover for the engine). coz everytime you want to close it, you will bump it, then make the aligmnet of the chasing change little bit. -
The petrol basically referes to Octane Number ... it refers to the stability of the pertrol .. there was another thread on this earlier.. somebody actually replied scientifically.. you go search for that thread.
Basically, as long you engine is build for that Octane Number, that's the minimum you should use. So for example a Vios is made to take in 95 OCT petrol,
it makes no diff if you use 95 or 98. But if you use 92, it will cause pinging in your engine which ain't very good.
Refer to your instruction manual to the minimum you should use.
As for the bonnet of the car, in theory yes, it causes misalignment. But you are not driving an aircraft or a space shuttle. so it doesn't matter if it is misaligned so long you don't travel in speeds of 1000km/h
One way to prevent such misalaignment is you "drop close" the bonnet.
Most ppl will just close the bonnet and press down to latch it. This will cause the bonnet to arch over time. -
rubbish than if you go over say an obstacle on the highwy at 120KPH than bump super disaligned.

my mum used to pump type 92 into her old starlet(the one from the 70s).. when i asked..she said cannot use other types.. is this true?

but if 92 works fine.. then it's ok to stick to 92.
you use higher, you do not gain anything but paying more.
looks like it is a hard time for you to buy petrol .. how many actually supply 92 now.
