Help...Need advice on driving up to Genting Highland..

Hi everone,
I will be driving up to Genting Highlands this weekend and need advice from all the experts from this forum. Do I need to change any gears when going up and coming down from Genting and do I need to prepare anything for my car? My car mileage is currently at 26K and I had done my 20K servicing on time. I am driving at toyota Vios. Many thanks for your advice and I really appreciate it. -
Yeah, just don't touch your brakepads right after you drive down, with your bare hands.

Ermm.... bring yr car to the workshop and test yr battery, suspension, brake. Just make sure yr car works fine, then should be ok.
By the way, anybody going up KL 16Nov to 26Nov??? -
Is your car Auto or Manual. If Manual, its easier to climb if your car hasn't got so much power. Whether its auto or manual, Try to keep your RPM at 3K, it will give you an easy time up. Switch off the aircon during climb, it will give you some power, and also prevent overheating.
Towards the peak, there's a really deep slope. Manual car with 1.5 or less CC will have to engage to Gear 1 or 2.
When coming down, try not to use foot brake as you might burn your brakes. Engage in low gear, its ok for the RPM to pull to more than 5K if you need to. Don't be scare by the engine sound, Don't worry your engine won't break.
Take it slow, don't rush. If you are not confident, just go half peak at Gotong Raya, park your car there and take the cable car up. -

do not apply brake, just slow down, release slightly accel, because after up turn many time no power

Many thanks for all your advice and yes I am driving a auto car, toyota vios. Will I have problem going up and coming down slope? Should I engage my gear at D mode when going up and coming down slope?

must check oil and coolant...never exceed 3K RPM...Gently Accelerate never floor it...as for the steeper section shift to 1 or 2

yar...when coming down you could rest after every 10mins to allow the brakes to cool down.

I guess everyone has their own different style of driving. What I experience is from my Satria 1.3 (K&N Filter, 4-2-1 Extractor).
Just make up to Goteng Raya, if you find it even difficult to make it there, just take cable car. Afterall safety is more important. -

Your car is very new and been service so, all things should be in very good condition. Possible it be good if you wash your car - wind screen clean is very important as if rain or get too cold, your windscreen if clean will remain clear and not fog up so easily. You should have no problem going up at all. You can try using D mode to going up and down the slope. For going up if you feel the lack of power then change to d2. Well just drive up slowly.
coming down hill all depends, if you are not too confident a driver, better use d2 , as D mode can be a little fast for the turns. just tap your brakes a little here and there to slow it down. using a little brake here and there will not wear it out that fast.
Use D2 for increase engine brake when driving down hill or for increase engine power when driving up hill. -
Just came back from Genting. The road up Genting has improved alot. Some parts of the road going up has 3 lanes that make it easier to drive up. If you are using a manual car, use 2nd and 3rd gear. When near the top, the road is a one-way and has 3 lanes and this makes driving up easy. You do not need to stop and brake the car so frequently compare to the past where there are only 2 lanes and there are many cars infont of you and you also have to watch out for cars coming down. Use Shell V-power petrol when going up, it will provide extra power for your car when you are going up. I have tried with this petrol and found that it really gives additional power driving up the hill.
When driving down take note of some of these precautions. Immediately after you start your car, before your start driving, always press the brake pedal a few times. Then move the car slowly and test the brake and make sure that the brake system is working properly. Do not press on the accelarator when the car is down gradient. Engage 2nd or 3rd gear and press on the brake to slow down the car if the car is travelling at above 40km/hr. Do not always press on the brake as this will wear the brake lining.
The North-South expressway has also improved. Some parts of the expressway from Malacca to KL has 3 lanes and the road has been resurfaced. This makes driving much more comfortable. Beware of road works along this stretch as they are adding lanes and resurfacing the road.
Happy driving to Genting and these few tips should help you to have a safe journey. -

hmm so now we all know abt getting to genting and coming back.. HOW ABT THE PARKING?! and the time that the car is gonna spend alone while the driver is sleeping how to protect? grr.

Drove my manual civic up once. On my way down, friend advised me to use engine brake. I was thinking....... "Siao, later gear box spoilt how?". Used the brakes and half way, i smell something burning. Stop the car, alighted to check and found all my discs rotors multi colors. In the end, all discs rotors and brake pads needed to be changed before coming back to Singapore. Cost me a bomb. Lesson learned. Next time, i rent car to go up.
