well jaguar is using alot of ford stuff so its kinda lost my respect la....i prefered the old jags....very solidly built....

Can't be helped lah... cos the brand is under Ford Motor Company mah... Quite a few other brands are under this company too, like Volvo, Aston Martin, Mazda and Ford itself... So they actually share the techonolgy among the various brands to bring you better quality cars... Quite a few other car companies are also using shared technology to lower R&D costs and improve car quality... imho there's absolutely nothing wrong with Jags using Ford parts. are you gonna lose respect for Bentley too coz it uses VW parts? I respect Ford as a car manufacturer coz it has given us good cars like the Focus and Mondeo, not forgetting Mustang. The Focus and Mondeo have one of the best, if not the best, FWD chasis in the world (in terms of handling). Why should jag be ashamed of using parts and sharing chasis from Ford? Even cars may share parts/platforms, they are able to behave differently.
Anyway back to the topic, in terms of class and prestige, i think there's no way any BMW can touch Jag. Jag is known as a gentleman's car, but for BMW? Not so sure about that. No offense to any Beemer drivers here. -

Yupz true standard has dropped..but then so has the standard of any other car manufacturers in the world. Just look at Mercedes Benz, BMW and even Toyota. One major culprit is, of course, the need to cut cost to compete in the competitive market. Thus pinning the blame on Ford for its decline is quality is unfair. If it remained independent, would the quality have dropped? I won't put my money against it. It is just following the trend in the market, so blame the entire industry if you must.
And then consumers cried foul over the less than desired quality of the cars produced in the late 1990s. Luxury marques now realise that getting quality level up again is crucial (witness the new S-Class), and I believe other car manufacturers will follow suit.
Anyway I remember reading in a review of a Jaguar model and the reviewer wrote Ford probably saved Jaguar by buying over the company. It appeared that the downfall of the company began even before Ford bought it over. -

if u take a look at the ford products intended for thier domestic market, u will see they are total rubbish...
and no offence... the mustang might be an iconic car but it had never declined in standard... it has always been a rubbish car reason why so many likes it is based soley on the figures.. which is very misleading... -

haha i shan't comment too much about the Mustang coz i have never driven one (will love to one day). To be honest i have no desire to own any of the Ford domestic models because they are tuned for the Americans who look for different things in a car compared to us.
