If he has to top up water, chances are it is not a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Else he would also have complained about blue smoke from the exhaust. Basic test is to check the fan first as it is usually the one to fail because there aint visible water leaks.Originally posted by AE86tofu:what i'd reccomend is that u conduct a coolant system presure test to see if there are leaks....if not..flush the system...(not just drain the whole engine block of coolant) run the water thru all the water jackets in the engine, hoses and radiatorsfor abt 5 mins...then fill her up with coolant....and see if it works...if it still dosent work check to see if u've blown a head gasket or have a cracked head...if yr head is cracked or warped u'll usually see engine oil mixed together with yr coolant
agreed...that is also one of the factors...if that one fail is either the fan is spoilt or the coolant map sensor spoil....Originally posted by spec:If he has to top up water, chances are it is not a blown head gasket or a cracked head. old car is liddat one...if u plan 2 keep yr car for some time like one yr plus might as well do up the cooling system...rather than some catasrophic failure 2 happen sometime later w/o warning...it all depends la...for that u get a bigOriginally posted by skeujin:old car n old radiator. im sure there r more leaks thn the ones tt r spilling. oni they r small n clogged w rust.
the worst advice to giv is to flush the system. this will cause the clogged leaks to open up n make the radiator into a sieve...
