how much to put aside every month?

  hi bros,
  
  need some advise here. I have plans for a STI or evo,wondering how if anyone can calculate for me how much i have to set aside every month?including season parking(multi storey).

  Take Rex for eg.
  Your age = 27 yr old - Insurance 0% NCD 1st party = $5800 per yr
  2.5 liter Rd tax - $2200 +/- per yr
  Car - $80000
  10 yr loan + interest = monthly 900
  Every 5 k servicing for 1 yr around 6 - 8 times. Price: around $2500 for 1 yr
  
  $900 - Installment
  $95 - MSCP parking
  $400 - Light traveller or $800 for heavy footer ( thats what my fren pay a
  mth ) ( Very heavy FC car - 1liter = 6-8km )
  $200 - Cash card + coupon
  $500 - Insurance per mth ( in 1 yr )
  $200 - Road tax per mth ( in 1 yr )
  $300 - Serving per mth ( in 1 yr )
  
  On the average is $2500 per mth and more
  
  For Evo
  
  On the average is $3000 per mth and more.
  
  If your take home salary after CPF cut is less than $7500 per mth... forget about it. Will be struggling like hell.

  yesh $2k is the bare minimum... assuming you don't mod a single thing and managed to get a cheaper insurance....
  
  Needa take home $6-7k if u want to comfortably own an evo and still maintain a regular lifestyle.

  Here's an estimate of my normal car expenses:
  
  Insurance = $900 (annual 50% NCD)
  Road Tax = $1400 (annual)
  -> $192 per month over 12 months
  Fuel = $210 ($70 per refill; 3 times a month)
  Instalment = $800 (per month)
  Servicing = $360 (4 times a year @$90 per 3 months) -> $30 per month over 12 months
  HDB Car park = $75 per month
  Coupons = $30 per month
  
  This works out to be $192 + $210 + $800 + $30 + $75 + $30 = $1,337 per month

  u missed out
  - cash card expenses (inclusive of those parkings usage)?
  - fines !
  
  not to forget, any simple car damage can make a lot of differences.
  
  Driving a car = possible to meet accident.
  
  Even minor accidents can cause a bomb if u suay suay hit a Merzs or other expensive cars.
  
  Very minor accident (car scratch, dents, tyre flat, mirror damage, etc) cost is about a few hundred dollars.
  
  Minor accident like those knock with other cars causing car dents, repaint rqd, small parts replacement, etc typically cost more than 1K and if u are culprit have to pay for the other party too.
  
  Major accident - a few thousand but usually no choice have to cover with issurance liao!
  
  Other than the monthly maintenance cost, I would also make sure I have like 5K in my bank to handle such unexpected cost.

  U r right. If u dun hit anything doesnt mean other pple dun hit u!
  
  Set aside some money in case u need to repairs without digging into the insurance. IMHO, 1k is about ok already.

  His mission in life is to obtain an FC of at least 10km/l on a stock evo IX MR, and to be able to smell petrol fumes from the air conditioning while the same car is set to neutral at the traffic lights.

  No offence,but my personal belief is:
  
  If you need to ask, than most probably you will not be able to afford it.
  And even if you can, trade-offs will have to be made.
  
  You control your expenditure, and not let your expenditure control you.
  Anyway a friend of mine drives an evo 9, for the basics, its ard 1.6k for instalments and around $500 for fuel if you can control your right foot.
