Hummer is not rubbish.Originally posted by AE86tofu:hummer is rubbish.full stop. there is a very very good reason y the defender is the workshorse of many military or govt organisations as compared to the hummer

you need something no navigate around tight spots and city areas, thats where the defender comes in very handy as opposed to the hummer....yes cost is also one of the big factors that come in mind that i agree...Originally posted by pilotsnoopy:Hummer is not rubbish.
I have driven both the land rover in SAF and the hummer while in states...
and the hummer performance is definitely better in terms of stability, traction, transversing of terrain and water bodies.
the reason for the defender being the workhorse of many military and govt organisations is because of the many commonwealth countries...and cost efficiency because of the numbers available.
and yes the hummer is a gas guzzler, but given a choice most operators would prefer the hummer for its performance and additional protection over the land rover.
your comment sounds very biased to me.
What are you talking about? Hummers and Land Rovers are made to be driven around on rough terrains, and the comparison should be based on this platform. If you want a car that goes around tight spots and city areas you should get a small Japanese car.Originally posted by AE86tofu:you need something no navigate around tight spots and city areas, thats where the defender comes in very handy as opposed to the hummer....yes cost is also one of the big factors that come in mind that i agree...
AE86Tofu has a point when he said the Defender is better in urban areas and tight spots.Originally posted by Theballstopshere:What are you talking about? Your comparision is like saying a Ferarri is no good because it cannot climb hills and cross rough terrains.![]()
True, but that is not the point of my reply to him. The Defender and The Hummer are both made as a rough terrain mover and not an urban vehicle. Therefore the basis of comparision should be made on this platform. To say that the Defender is better cos it drives better in an urban landscape is perhaps true, but fundamentally wrong and definitely unfair to the Hummer.Originally posted by pilotsnoopy:AE86Tofu has a point when he said the Defender is better in urban areas and tight spots.
talking about urban ops...try fitting a section of armed soldiers in a cheap 1.5L saloon.Originally posted by Theballstopshere:True, but that is not the point of my reply to him. If you want a car built for urban travel, get a jap saloon, you dun get a Rover for that cos it does not handle well on corners and high speed. Going by your rationale, I can even say that a cheap 1.5L saloon is better than a 100k Rover. The basis for comparison is already wrong.
If you want a mud sloshing jungle beast, its either a Defender or a Hummer. Therefore the comparision should be made based on this notion.
We are talking about versatility here.. No one would want a vehicle that is 100% being built to handle off-road conditions, and thus useless in urban environments.Originally posted by Theballstopshere:True, but that is not the point of my reply to him. who says they are not an urban vehicle in this context...
