The situation below from ST is an extreme, but it is indeed true that one has to watch out for high kerbs from time to time. I recall a report in the new paper of a similar situation. When the driver parked the car, it was OK. Then he picked up some passengers and the rear bumper sunk on the kerb. As he drove off, the bumper was ripped off.

Standardise height of road kerbs, please
I read with interest 'Standardise road humps for better ride' (ST, Feb 2).
I would like to suggest that all roadside as well as carpark kerbs be standardised.
Recently I had a very nasty shock when I reverse-parked my new car in a public car park in Lorong Ah Soo next to Block 128. My back bumper was scratched underneath and when I drove forward it became dislodged.
Can we have some form of uniform height for kerbs? It is quite painful to see my new car being damaged in such circumstances. I drive a family saloon car for that matter.
