changing lanes tips

any tips how to change lanes from major traffic road, wow i am so scared and eerrie, when i need to change to middle of the road, i tried, but scared. i do't want to give up, pls give me some tips.
also any tip for crank course and S course? -
sadly in sg.... must hiong hiong go one,
out of 10 cars, i think if u wanna wait, only 1 will give way...

to pass driving license.. most imptly.. is to let the tester noe.. u are a SAFE driver... -

if other drivers don't want to give in, den bobian. But normally for TP, they will lah cos they been thru tt b4 too. To cut lanes, signal, den accelerate and go to the lane. But don't turn the steering wheel too much for the car to swerve.

i know of one very good good way...
u wind down the window and then stick out your arm out the the window and then wave up and down slowly.... Most drivers would give way to u because they wouldn't want to knock into your extended arm... -

In the driving theory test book, it teaches us about hand signals to inform drivers about our intentions....
And it is quite a good and proven way... -
For S and crank course, try to keep near to the opposite side of the kerb which u are turning to.... So that u will have more space when u turn and then u wont hit the kerb...
For Crank course:
In comfort driving centre, I was using toyota vios as my learning car... I use the "knob which u use it to open the car-door" as a guide.... When the car "knob" is in line with the kerb that u are turning into, then u can turn your steering wheel.... And please control your clutch, so that u can control your car speed... Be as slow as possible but turn your steering wheel as fast as possible.... -

i just started to drive in October 2006, this is March 07, u mean can pass earlier is it?

i mean like changing lane in major road, ok if no car behind ok lah , happy but suddenly all car from behind all coming, wow i panic, is it to move on or stop there, i keep on braking, so scared and instructor say no braking, how can i see from mirror so many cars coming (cos they got over the traffic lights), and if i move i scared they bang me.

if the car behind maintained the same speed (by looking at the side mirror).. if enough time and space (car infront & behind) for u to change.. then change.
rem rem rem.. to look at blind spot.. if u din look at blind spot.. confirm fail when u taking ur test. is better to be careful.. by looking more.. -
ya.. and also.. no braking when changing lane.. if the car in front of u.. in ur current lane is very far away.. unless the car infront of u is very near.. then is another matter.. y u cant brake.. becos the car behind u will knock onto u... u cant brake for nothing on the main road.. is like hogging the road.
look at ur current lane.. and the lane u intend to change.. -

Use your mirrors to look out for a gap in the cars, aim for the gap if its sufficiently big enuf, accelerate a bit, check blind spot and change to that lane. Don't turn ur steering wheel too much. You are cruising in the left lane at about 70km/h.... you want to change to the middle lane.... you turn on your right signal lights... the car on your right doesnt seem to give way to you... you shift down one gear and floor the accelerator.... overtake him and then cut into his lane abruptly.... then wind down your window, raise your right hand and show him your middle finger...
That's how you change lanes... -

I'm a new driver, passed last year. But I still remember what my instructor told me. And till today, I do that whenever I change lane.
Check rear and wing mirrors. Signal. Then check rear mirror, check wing mirror again. If the car (which you wish to cut into its path) can be seen on your rear mirror (at least 1/4 of rear mirror - actually, I think as long as it can be seen), it means the car is behind yours, check wing mirror again, check blind spot. Then lane change smoothly (at the right speed accordingly).
You need to do all these very fast.
If you're afraid, just make sure the car (which you wish to cut into its path) can be seen fully on the rear mirror. That means a very clear path.
Lane changing has always been my greatest fear too but I am no longer afraid. But one of my instructors at Ubi would always take me along Eunos Link to practise over and over again. I give him the credit for taking me along the busy Eunos Link during peak hours to help me overcome my fear. Not all instructors are willing to do that because the risk is of course higher. Sometimes they make us practise on easier routes which iseasier for them.
But keep in mind safety always. Do lane change only when you are sure. Once you're certain don't hesitate. It's worse when you hesitate. It can be extremely dangerous in fact.
I hope you overcome your fear soon.
By the way, when I passed. What I did was: I stopped at my carpark with parked cars behind. Looked into the rear mirror. See if I could see a car. Then turned my head and looked back to help me uderstand/realise how far the car was away from mine. I stopped at various distances (car on rear mirror of different sizes) etc. That really helped me to estimate distances of cars behind me. It helped me a great in my lane changing a lot. But of course, my carpark is a private carpark and so the traffic is controlled so it was not dangerous to do that. If you wish to do that in public carparks, do be very careful.
Learning to drive is fun. But driving is a heavy responsibility. I am responsible not only for my own safety but for my passengers' safety AND the safety of all other road users.
