Subaru Forester

Hi to all out there, can I know anyone of your who owns subaru forester 06 or 07 model , do your have problems with your car.......
my parent's subaru forester 07 model having problem with the ECU and have being sending back for 5 times within 3 months....and now the car have been send back since last week........To what i heard fromt he advisor is that all subaru forester 06 and 07 model having this problem.....they just got their car in the early feb...
So i wish to know is it real.......or do your have other problem with this car? -
better make sure the dealer fix up the problem... or else end up like the one that was featured in the papers last year. whole car kena burnt the night before it was to be used for wedding.

Thanks alot.....now the car haven being send back to subaru for the past 3 weeks already......Quite pissed off when i ask the car advisor, how come the problem keep on coming back? but... you also cannot blame them. they seek help for the ECU problem from japan direct i believe... and if they also are at the moment dun have a solution yet, the dealer here also cannot much. this kind of situation happens to almost all dealers. So now you can't do much lor. what exactly is the problem with the ecu? if its still drivable and not compromising ride safety, then it should still be alright for normal driving conditions. if the problem is affecting the particular batch of cars, then i'm sure once they have the solution, they will contact you to arrange a date for you to bring the car in and have the problem retified

It affect greatly as long as safety concern..........the car most of the time can t pick up the speed, the max speed is 20km/h.......once even happen on the expressway........................can you imagine 20km/h at CTE.............Why can t they tell us the fault first......very regret of buying their car also lor......should have stick back to nissan...

wow that's bad... in that case you can make some pretty big noise to them and have them get u a replacement car or something. my guess is that they need to update the ECU programming... but just that either they are still working on it or have yet to reach the dealer. I suppose the Forester is actually a fine car, just happen so this batch of cars u choose got struck with a particular problem. Just bare with the inconviniences for a while more and see how it goes

Ya..........its really a fine car...........too bad have this ECU problem......really hope that they can solve it ASAP...haven been three weeks without car.......

I took delivery of my 07 forester 2.0 just before the New Year. No problems so far, took it up to malacca a few weeks back even.
have found the tyres a bit lacking in grip tho', but cannot blame, they're semi-off road Geo-landers...
contemplating getting the lower half of my forester either re-sprayed black or looking for some bodykit to make it more protected from the dirt from the road, White car is a killer to maintain....
anyways, you should tell Subaru to give you a temp car, no car for 3 weeks is no joke.
But whatever happens, I still think overall the Subaru is a better choice over any Nissan... since you bought a Forester, the only comparable car in the Tan Cheong lineup is the X-trail, which actually feels like a pick up inside...

Just get back the car last Saturday....they say they have replace a new ECU..........Today the problem arise again...when travel up a gentle slope, the speed just simply stuck in 40km/h....sian ma.....Because what they subaru service center says is that all the 06 and 07 model got problem.....something just wondering is it we get a 2nd hand get..... -
Hi, yep, so far I've not experienced any problems with my ecu. btw, what's the milage that you've clocked on your forester?
i've only done 3500+ km, so only did 1 svcing. waiting for my second svcing.
It is getting rediculous for your car to get so many problems, hope your sales rep has been helpful, why not try contacting somone higher up the subaru hierarchy to ask abt the problem.
'cos ultimately such issues also do not serve any benifit for Subaru.
your ECU refuses the car to move faster than 40km? is it locked in the gear? does it rev freely when it's in Neutral?
Sorry for asking so many questions, jus want to get a clearer picture of what the problem actually is. -
Hi , it ok .....
The ar have clock around 2120++km already. The ECU just dont work properly. Meaning that we you step full on the gas, the car just won' t respond to it. Must step around for more than 10 sec then all of a sudden the car then will respond. When going some gentle slope, the car speed will just stuck at 40km/h or less no matter hard the gas is stepped........Until now the car still have a very slow reaction meaning when you step more on the gas, it takes more than 5 sec to respond it, when the respond come, it is a very sudden respond. And my mom just very pissed of lor.....Subaru service seriously cannot make it........
Can I know what type of petrol you pump? Because the advisor say if pump 98 the problem won't arise, but the technical say nothing to do with the petrol...Sometime just felt that the service center is sort of trying to get things done for the sake of getting it done. They just alway say that all the forester have this problem. They say they have no solution to this problem. On the average the car must be back to the service center once every week to upload the patch to the ECU. Its like ridiculous lor, alway must be back to the service center..........

well at least they are trying to help, better than rejecting you straight when they have no solution at all. Service advisors usually know nuts about technical stuff... so it's best to approach the mechanics or workshop supervisor to get a better depth of the problem.
Tell you frankly... my Mini side also having such a situation the '05 Cooper S Auto stalling problem has been bugging us since last year. And BMW/Mini customers have far less patience than you. So far... we have received a new ECU programming update and we're seeing less and less of such problems coming back....
... but now we're seeing the JCW Cooper S being affected as well
Like i had mentioned before, i'm sure they are also waiting for a new ecu update. you dun really have much of a choice but to wait OR demand a courtesy car from them. really.

if all else fails... why not put in an aftermarket ecu? with proper tuning, it should work much better than what u have now

what normalboi meant to say is to buy the forester ecu from elsewhere, the type which you can configure settings enhance the engine's performance. i believe you dun really understand and thus dun really need it right -

u should go to subaru club and ask around also.. there might be a helpful someone who will go bang table on ur behalf

Thank for all your advice.......Now is just like using money to make yourself angry..... Seriously motor image really cannot make it , first few time complaint they heck care until last sat made a scene down there.......But the problem still arise.......

I've been using Shell 98 and for every 4 tanks, I put in one tank of V Power... but really dont think it's the petrol, especially since the manual indicates that Ron 95 is good enough.
I also agree that many sales rep at subaru dont really know their stuff... I decided on my car based on my own research and the 1st sales rep i met actually gave me many 'errors' in the specs that the fella gave me! I re-checked and found that my initial research was right!
My eventual sales rep also not very knowledgable, but I paiseh to change again... so... and she gave me good bargain.
My friend met a Deane, who knew the cars very well tho' guess its a matter of 'heng sueh'.
Guess you bought a lemon from subaru... btw what colour is your forester? got any freebies from them? -

Actually is really a pissed off, I totally agrees with your that their sales rep does know clearly on the car spec. Seriously really admit SUAY..............
And guess what, your know that Subaru alway conduct a talk for new subaru owner and I did attend. Not only forester have problem in fact all other model have their own indivdual problem. Everytime I when back to the service center, confirm there will be some more scolding their car advisor......Seriously really reflect on how "GOOD" the company is lor......
