I used to drive one of the slightly newer models Volvo 240GLE, a cream white one, really quite the classic late 80s Volvo. Of course there are many squeaking parts but once oiled you really admire the overall smoothness and steadiness of the car in traffic. Not a sprinter of course, but low end torque is actually surprisingly adequate. It's kind of like picking up as fast as any other newer Japanese sedans on the roads up to 70-80kmh. But above that the mearge 118bhp does shows. But cruising at 80kmh is like a breeze, car feels so light yet stable. Gradual bends are taken ever so pliant footed and interior is at peace totally without any unnecessary hum and haw. In fact, it is such a well insulated car you would be surprise at the differences in traffic when you leave the windows open vs closed.
The somewhat dated and odd body shape is exactly what attracts me though. Gives ya that nostalgic yesterday feeling with a touch of timeless classic feel. Its like no matter how much it costs, when you pull up in one of these, its a classic Volvo afterall...perhaps also indicative of certain status that comes with owning one of these.
Its strange comparing what i drive now against this old Volvo.... despite everything that it lacks, i still loved it the way it was.

I sure missed it.
