Get someone else to start the car lor. Then real driver just take over and drive off.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Research is ongoing to add weight and seatbelt sensors to ensure that it is the driver and not someone else who is taking the test.
Did you read the para before the one you quoted?Originally posted by Icemoon:Get someone else to start the car lor. Then real driver just take over and drive off.
I dunno how it works but is it possible for you to sit on the driver seat and get someone else to breathe into it?Originally posted by ditzy:Did you read the para before the one you quoted?![]()
I dunno whether to answer you or flush the toilet and laugh my head off.Originally posted by Icemoon:I dunno how it works but is it possible for you to sit on the driver seat and get someone else to breathe into it?
With a DNA chip, unless you clone yourself, you cannot get awayOriginally posted by Icemoon:I dunno how it works but is it possible for you to sit on the driver seat and get someone else to breathe into it?
Wah, then every time start engine must use the breathalyzer?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:With a DNA chip, unless you clone yourself, you cannot get away
Police are using portable DNA chips at scene of crime now...it will be soon possible to use this technology for other purposes. If your alcohol level exceeds the legal limit, your car is dead.
exactly .. let's see how they are going to implement it.Originally posted by jianfish9:Seems impossible to implement though.
That means the car can only be driven by one person. Lets say the husband is a drink driver, does that mean that the wife cannot use the car since the DNA chip will not recognise the wife?
Barring the one driver per car question aside, how can the DNA chip stop the scenario I raised above?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:With a DNA chip, unless you clone yourself, you cannot get away

Of course you should answer me.Originally posted by ditzy:I dunno whether to answer you or flush the toilet and laugh my head off.![]()
Are you an engineer?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:I have a better idea. A small DNA chip installed into the breathalyzer system will confirm the identity of the person by the DNA present in the saliva. The technology is now available but rather expensive.
No, I deal with DNA, not machines, but I know the technology works.Originally posted by Icemoon:Are you an engineer?
Ask yourself .. what problem is the breathanalyser designed to solve? Why do you need to confirm the id of the person?
I think he might be right.. driver can call someone who is sober to start the car, since any one beside the driver can blow into the thing..Originally posted by ditzy:I dunno whether to answer you or flush the toilet and laugh my head off.![]()
Blow once into the instrument...reset the instrument using the DNA chip to recognize the new driver alonelOriginally posted by Icemoon:erm .. with this technology .. how does Hertz run their business there?

Actually I asked a trick question .. Hertz will never need to install the breathanalyzer.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Blow once into the instrument...reset the instrument using the DNA chip to recognize the new driver alonel
Your DNA technology never satisfy all the use cases. Note the use case described by cosmic_rides.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:With DNA technology, the driver cannot get away with it, unless he clones himself
Lots of people are not allowed to do that in many countries anyway. Read your car insurance carefully. In many western nations, car insurance does not extend to third parties. If your brother drives your car he drives withnout insurance.Originally posted by cosmic_rides:would this mean that one cannot loan the car to his or her friend to drive when the owner gets drunk? I guess some people drinks too much and gets his or her friend to help drive them home.
if all drivers of the vehical has to be registered, that would mean that the registration of drivers for the car would be a very long one.
Read my reply. It can be done, just need political will to do it.Originally posted by Icemoon:Your DNA technology never satisfy all the use cases. Note the use case described by cosmic_rides.
That's fine .. you should have read the terms and conditions when you signed your insurance. However it is also true that it is your car and you have the right to allow anyone to drive it.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Lots of people are not allowed to do that in many countries anyway. You are crazy.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:If the owner gets drunk, he takes a cab home and collect it the next day. Bring in a breathalyzer starter engine and we can stop this nonsense of drink driving once and for all.
The law of the land does not allow anyone to drive any car without valid insurance. If the spouse or family member wants the right to drive the car in future, they must be listed in the car insurance and their DNA must be captured in the breathalyzer device.Originally posted by Icemoon:That's fine .. you should have read the terms and conditions when you signed your insurance.
