rust on brakes is not really of a big deal, the rust is only on the surface. Just go drive round the block with brakes applied and it'll be gone.
But how come the rust form quite fast?From what i know metal takes like days to rust -
not really. i work with metal very often at work and sometimes its just a matter of water drying on metal to cause oxidation. its really just as previously mentioned the brake dust + moisture leaving a rust looking mark that sits on top. if the brake discs were actually corroding then yes, there would be issues.Originally posted by ceecookie:oh...thanks for the info

i belive the BMW was using the cast iron disc brake, an alloy. The Fe contain of this alloy may be high but i dont think it will just get rusty within an hour. Perhaps it should take some longer time. Several days, i guess. I belive even if the car was parked nearby any beach, which of there maybe salty air, it still wont rust that fast.

Its just surface rust gosh... exposed metal in contact with water and air, iron oxide starts to form from the surface. All you need to do to make it look nice, shiny and new is just drive around and brake for a short distance! -

a rich poser will change the cls350 to cls55 without doing any other stuff to the exterior.. -
all disc brakes will rust within 15-30min.. unless its ceramic or carbon fibre disc brakes den different story.
as long as it comes into contact with any kind of water, it will rust until u drive it again..
i polished my car after washing it.. it was 15-30min after washing when i realised the rust.. -

yea all brake disc rust very easily..when my mom just got her new car..the brakes are nice.but when she drove it home,its rusted already(it rained)
then my dad took the car out..came back,the rust all gone..think is cos he brake or something.. -

Yes, QUITE rare compared to the usual suspects like the Merc S-Class, and BMW 7-series..and regarding brake rust, tomsss and HeXy all say clearly liao..as long as the cast iron brake discs comes into contact with water, it will rust ON the surface within an hour..but it's only ON the SURFACE..after a little braking when you drive, all gone..Originally posted by Variodical:

I think someone in Sengkang recently bought a new black Porsche Cayman (dunno whether is it 'S' or not)..very oftenly hear it zooming past the Shell station very loudly..I at Compass Point also can hear it..it's either the owner lives in SK, or his gf lives in SK..
