Once again you demonstrate how little you know about Formula 1.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Tickets for the British F1 race were being sold at between 180-220GBP (about S$600) on the internet. I wonder how much will the tickets for our F1 race next year and how much government tax will be levied. Perhaps a 30% tax like the special tax on all hotel rooms during the F1 race would be reasonable. Then there is the TV rights. I should think $20 pay per view should be pretty reasonable. Since not every home has cable TV, Mediacorp should start looking into how they can make the F1 race available to paying customers who do not have cable. Otherwise Starhub will have a monopoly and the price of the television broadcast may be much higher.
$1200? You must be a great fan then.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Watching the race from binoculars at the top of a building is no better than watching television.
Ticket prices should reflect the cost of bringing the race here and how much the market will bear. Being the first race in Singapore, I think even with ticket prices between $200-$600, people will still buy. After all, I have paid S$1200 for a ticket to watch Aida.
Pay per view charges should be higher for businesses like pubs and hotels. They can afford to pay and it will be daft if any pub or kopi tiam tries to save he money. So $120 fee is not excessive.
Time to tax till they squeak.
Give this Oxford quality person a break lah. He is a complete novice in motorsports.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:Once again you demonstrate how little you know about Formula 1.
You don't tell us where those 180 quid seats are located. Different stands around the track are priced differently. And then we don't know if it's a single-day pass or if it covers qualifying and the practice sessions as well. Compound this with Hamilton-mania - by now all the cheaper tickets have been snapped up.
And FOM controls the broadcast rights, that's why the graphics used in every country are the same. It would've been discussed anyway at the negiotiations and they don't come cheap. ESPN-SS already controls the rights to broadcast the race in this region and they broadcast every qualifying session and race live.
Don't you want the economy to benefit? Let people who don't have cable TV go to the pubs and kopitiams to watch. They don't have a problem doing it week in and week out for football.![]()

I agree with private vessels watching from Singapore River...do a special cruise for $1000 a person. As for seats, market research will come up with a figure as to the number of foreign tourists coming in. If they have spent 2k to fly in just to watch the race, they wouldn't mind paying $600-$800 a ticket. Follow the UK, charge more for a ticket but allow them to use the same ticket for the practice and the test races as well.Originally posted by footprints:What is the planned seating capacity? Grandstand seats are going to be quite expensive. I think SGD$400 to around SGD$600 should be about right for the best seats. Cheaper viewing areas should be made affordable from $SGD50 onwards.
Are they planning on opening up the singapore river for private vessels for that event?
Yeah and so is a football cup final where the prices are comparable.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:I do not agree with cheap viewing areas as long as there are people prepared to pay more. This is an elite event for those who can afford to pay.
Yeap.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:Yeah and so is a football cup final where the prices are comparable.
I think cheaper standing tickets can be issued for vantage points from some of the buildings where the view is rather limited. It's better than closing entire areas and penalising the shop owners there, but aids crowd control.

I expect the lower price ticket to be around $50 each and the grand stand ticket to be about $800.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Tickets for the British F1 race were being sold at between 180-220GBP (about S$600) on the internet.
