Yeah, coz the mass of rim is higher than the tyre itself...Originally posted by iceFatboy:but I hear more fuel consumption..
so dun be suprised to see a lambo or ferrari with scratched, scruffed or even chipped rimsOriginally posted by alleggerita:Bigger rims = higher FC
So I see no point..unless you are planning to take all corners at high speed, if not no point leh..lol..
Low profile tyres also troublesome, more unstable than a normal tyres in an event of a blowout, but like tomsss pointed out, if it's run-flats then nevermind..haha..and low profile tyres means very easy to kerb your big rims..![]()
Oh..forgot to tell you another thing..changing to big rims will make the ride of the car deteriorate..ride become uncomfortable..lets say there are 2 Corollas, one with 15-inch rims, another with 18-inch rims, the 15-inch one will be more comfortable..Originally posted by TheDream:Thanks to all! If I can summarise:
Bigger rims, other than more chio, mainly for better handling when cornering at higher speeds.
The downside:
- Higher FC (cos rims are heavier than tyres)
- Higher stress to axles
- Cannot take big potholes
- Higher likelihood to scratch the rims
- If blowout, rims are more likely to be damaged, unless run-flats

heheh..agreed..absolutely pointless..Originally posted by Vigelic:same reason why pple put those high spoilers at the back..
yeah... even more so... i think its totally absurd when those SUVs have low profile tyres... i mean.. isnt it suppose to be an off-roader.... even if it is not.. if u are gonna be cornering so hardly that u need low profile tyres.. ur SUV will flip first...Originally posted by alleggerita:heheh..agreed..absolutely pointless..![]()
passenger cars dun have big enuff wheel wells to fit big big 22inch bling bling rims... only SUVs have, so that's why lohOriginally posted by n0x:yeah... even more so... i think its totally absurd when those SUVs have low profile tyres... i mean.. isnt it suppose to be an off-roader.... even if it is not.. if u are gonna be cornering so hardly that u need low profile tyres.. ur SUV will flip first...poseurs...
Actually I remember an episode in Stage 5 where he put spoilers on his AE86 and said that he was able to feel that the car was more steadyOriginally posted by ditzy:Do you see takumi's 86 with the 12K rev limit come with low profile tyres and huge rims?If takumi doesn't use them, it can't be good for you.
Does his car come with huge spoilers? No? Well, ok so its not really right to compare like that.

My ride actually came stock with 17" rims...Originally posted by sir_boris:i'm curious which one will you have on your ride after much exploration....will it be the smallest eg 12"? or a big 18"?
Yup..spoilers produces downforce, so more stable..but that's at high speeds then the spoiler will come into effect..haha..i doubt there's really much of an effect at 60-90kmh..maybe at 90km/h (Singapore's highest speed limit) there will be just a tinny-weeny bit of effect..but not enough to make your car feel more stable..so generally in Singapore, spoilers really for aesthetics only..lol..Originally posted by TheDream:Actually I remember an episode in Stage 5 where he put spoilers on his AE86 and said that he was able to feel that the car was more steady![]()

its no surprise lah.... Keiichi Tsuchiya's AE86 is now have a rear spoiler too (as seen in Hot Version. Vol 83). His AE86 vs. JWRC Suzuki SwiftOriginally posted by TheDream:Actually I remember an episode in Stage 5 where he put spoilers on his AE86 and said that he was able to feel that the car was more steady![]()
hmm what car u driving?Originally posted by TheDream:My ride actually came stock with 17" rims...I was just interested in the technical aspects, and seeing a lot of people wanting to change from 14" or 15" to bigger...
Does it have the 12K rev limit?Originally posted by tomsss:its no surprise lah.... Keiichi Tsuchiya's AE86 is now have a rear spoiler too (as seen in Hot Version. Vol 83). His AE86 vs. JWRC Suzuki Swift
In fact, the anime is basically following that car's development i heard
The engine is capable of 11k rpm, Grp A spec actually ... but it was de-tuned to 9k rpm for street usability.Originally posted by ditzy:Does it have the 12K rev limit?Really puts the spoon sports ek9 to shame if thats the case.
