Anybody please share how to improve the FC of a 1.8L Altis...am driving it relatively light-footedly and yet in 2wks it sucks about $100 worth of petrol.Thanks!

What is the distance you have covered in those 2 weeks??? If you drive relatively light footed & covered 2000km & yet it only costs SGD$100 of petrol, then your Fc would be quite amazing. If the distance were 500km then it is horrible for an Altis. Remember FC is calculated by distance/litre of petrol or litres of petrol / 100km if I'm not wrong. i spend more than that in 2 weeks. i cover abt 500km per week.

Hmmm...k, as of what I remember, when I got the car it was 3/4 full. and before i return it, it left 1/4, but in between i pumped $50. On the return day, i pumped $40 and it hit full tank. My distance of travel is Toa Payoh to School (TP) X 4 and Toa Payoh to Mandarin Gardens X 4, Toa Payoh to Boon Keng market X 2 and lastly Toa Payoh to Marina South X 2.

how old is the car ? .... well maintained ? ....
lots of things would help .... from the exhaust to the air filter, fuel filter, fuel pump, engine oil, oxygen sensor, spark plugs etc ....
go round to the back of the car and sniff at the exhaust a bit, got strong gasoline smell ? .... that may imply that the combustion is not happening properly, or more than the required fuel is being injected ... -
It would help if u put up more information like:
1) Actual mileage from ur starting point to ur destination
2) Traffic condition
3) Amt of petrol pumped
Do u know how to calculate ur FC in the 1st place? -
With auto cars you can't really do much other than continue being light-footed... unless you go install those so-called fuel saver devices loh. And I don't think they have a manual Altis in SG right?
$100 in 2 weeks... plus the kind of distance you travel... doesn't look like high consumption to me leh.
For me one way that really improves FC on my van is gradual acceleration, constant speed and smooth driving (plus shifting gears super early

hmm.bro so how many KM did u cover in those 2weeks?
i think u're considered below average for ur petrol cost man.
on the average i travel approx 1000km per week. 2 tanks of petrol each week.haha 1 tank is around S$100.
my car(or rather my mums) is less den 3 years old.my mileage has almost reached 120K
sometimes petrol costs cant be saved.

Hmmm...does it matter if you use different brands of fuel? Would using 98 get better FC then 95? What about Shell Vpower?Lastly any users of Caltex Techron here? Does it really purge carbon and smoothen the engine?

perhaps u are being a little too skeptical in saving costs yeah dude. relax la.jus enjoy ur drive. thats the most impt.

i've just watched Mythbuster which was showing its Big Rig episode... one of the myths they were testing included drafting behind a big truck to improve fuel efficiency... and it was proven to be true! but its suicidal lah to follow a trailer truck so closely.

2 weeks for $100 is dammned CHEAP!!
I usually spent $500 in a mth jus on petrol, tt would equals to $250 for 2 weeks, n here u are saying it's fuel consuming when u only spent $100 for 2 weeks??
Are u driving a weekend car? I dun think any real car owner wld complain if they spent $100 on petrol for 2 WEEKS ya

if u nid help to check ur consumption, try do e following.
1) pump ur tank to e fullest, n take down e mileage after pump.
2) e next time u pump again, be it half tank or empty, take down e mileage again, n the litres of petrol.
This 2nd mileage minus 1st mileage = dist travelled.
so take dist travelled divided by litres taken = dist travel per litre
anything abv 11km/li is quite fuel economy, which i believe altis is.
mine car is ard 8 km/li. bmw is ard 8.5-9km/li
try calculating n let us know! -

Just my assessment,... u may wanna check with others...
Usually unleaded 98 would be suffice enough for modern car, if u looking for mileage.
but every car make is different, so there's a slight chance of some car may b suited for others, so it's better to do some homework ya, probably those altis owners can give some opinons

if it still is running in the fuel consumption would be high. wait till the change of engine oil, fc will improve -
