Typically in an engine, the alternator, coolant pump and a/c compressor are all powered by the crankshaft pulley, with the belt running all around them. If you remove the belt, the engine will still start, but you see the battery light coming on in your instrument panel, meaning there's no charging... which means no power from the alternator. Why? cos no belt to transmit power to the alternator. same if you try to turn on the a/c... blower will still run, but it will not be cold, cos compressor not running. And then your car will overheat in a matter of minutes cos the coolant is not running. mean to say, as long as you are cruising at 2000rpm, the power from the alternator is always available.. cos the alternator is turing mah.,
unlike when you are at a stop, the engine had to ram to 1000~1100rmp when the compressor kick in.
