A lorry burst into flames at the carpark near Block 228 Choa Chu Kang Central, and it was completely destroyed.
Said Wilson, who sent in this email to STOMP:
“This is scary! I was about to blog when suddenly there's a loud explosion going on. At first, I thought it was some kid under the block playing with fire crackers since tomorrow is the Mid Autumn festival. But I was wrong.
“The explosion was really loud and to my surprise a vehicle was burning furiously under the block at the car park! This happened at about 9.15PM at Choa Chu Kang Central Blk 228 Carpark on 24/09/2007.
“Immediately I took my phone and take pictures and videos of the scene.
“The van was burning and from the video we can hear the explosions. It was horrifying! It exploded 3 times in the video. The fire was really big and we could smell the smoke.
“We called 999 immediately. (I know I said 995 in the video but we called 999 instead). When I was talking through the phone with the police officer, I supposed no one had called at that point of time because I was asked a lot of questions. So what we can see from here is that Singaporeans don't really care about this, they just stood there and watch "show".
“The vehicles beside the burning van did not get burnt badly. From what I can see after the fire was put out by the SCDF, the burnt was most probably caused by stuff inside the lorry. I'm not really sure what it is because it's already black!
“I don't think anyone was injured."
Zogel, who lives in the area as well, sent in these pictures of the van on fire, and says that "prior to the incident, lots of kids were playing those firecrackers."
Both the Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed they received a call about the incident at 9.15pm and said a Toyota lorry parked at the open carpark at Block 228 Choa Chu Kang Central.
The lorry was totally destroyed. Two other nearby vehicles suffered heat damage. No one was injured in the blaze.
Investigations are ongoing.
