Impreza 1.6TS (M) - Question on reverse gear.

  Dear all,
  
  Got an issue with my ride. I have just collected my Impreza 1.6TS a week ago. Its a Manual transmission.
  
  I realise that there's always this LOUD engagging sound whenever I shift to reverse gear. Can any TS (M) owner advise if this is normal? If it is, why is this so? It don't happen in my last car.
  
  Check with my SE, who told me this is normal for current WRX & TS, but new 1.5R don't have this problem.
  
  The sound can be pretty loud (with some vibration at times). Just have to put up with it if normal. But if not, have to highlight during 1st servicing next week.

  New car 1st servicing at 1600km, so its pretty fast.
  
  Sigh~ I registered with Subaru club the day I booked my car. But till today, no one activated my account, despite 1 or 2 reminder email.
  
  So no choice got to check here.
  
  Any TS or WRX owners can comment on this? Thank you.

  dunno leh.. i tot alot of cars reverse gear got loud engaging sound...
  
  in ssdc.. the civic i drive had loud engaging sound.. not loud as in loud la.. but louder than normal..

  try shifting into reverse gear SLOWLY. Does it go in smoothly or do you feel the lever grinding against the gear and that you have to apply more pressure to feed the gear in?
  
  Anyway, maybe replacing the transmission oil might solve the problem. Bring this problem up during your first servicing.

  yo bro. The reverse is normal sound. dont worry. Its not like grinding. btw the 06 model that u got is not called TS. its just impreza. TS are all the 04/05 versions.

  u can try to shift it into 1st gear then back to reverse

  Usually will have a bit of grinding noise when engaging reverse gear..
  
  Two possible reasons I can think of for louder-than-normal grinding noise:
  
  1) Transmission oil used not suitable for gearbox..
  
  2) You are used to shifting into gears fast and maybe the subaru's gearbox not suitable for shifting gears fast, and thus when engaging reverse gear fast it may baulk a bit?

  Please shift to 1st gear or 3rd gear, (stop the gear motion) then shift to the reverse.
  
  The reverse gears anti klunk kits are not factory fitted.
  Go to their new drivers briefing and ask this question. They will answer you professionally.

  Is it the grinding sound? something like you engage the gear without proper clutching?

  eh eh better still... TS, take video of the reverse gear sequence done on your car and put on youtube then we all can better assess the problem, hor hor guys?

  make sure that your veh is stationary for like 1 or 2 secs before engaging reverse gear and to fully depress the clutch during the 1-2 sec delay...this is to totally disengage the gearbox from the engine(the gears are still moving even in neutral FYI) before engaging reverse....remember that the reverse gear is a straight cut gear so try not to force it in if not excessive wear will result
