Porsche is known to be the true 'driver's car' and their lap times from all over shows the true engineering that went into the car.
Buying boxster means too cheapo to buy 911 turbo or gt3? C'mon, that's sibei childish mentality. Of course, there r ppl who die-die just want to have a porsche, but like above poster says, a lot are gals and they dun need so much power but just a branded and zippy car.
Boxster tuned up can be a force to be reckoned with oso. Not everyone is filthy rich.. mebe he can afford $220k but not $400k car... (tat's bloody $180k diff folks).. fair enough. For $220k he rather not drive some Merc E or some Audi... so buy Porsche boxster la. Considered a true sports car brand.. looks not bad... top quality, great handling...
When u can't afford it, talk is big la...
Idiot 1 : "Knn! boxster wtf? I rather get LP640."
Idiot 2 : "LP640? Lam pa 640 la.. will be smoked by my Reventon..."
But end up, they r driving some wiralution.
Although many of us like jap tiong chias and very high end euro supercar, but if u can really afford or get a chance to try a boxster, its pretty nice for a change.
Mebe not for young punk age group la.. stick to WRX or wadeva.. but when u all older n juz want a nice Euro executive ride wif sportiness, u'll realize its hard to beat the boxster in tat price range.
The truth is, the first Porsche Boxster was created to save Porsche from the red ink..so it WAS meant to be a "cheap" car in Porsche's own eyes..and because it was so freakin' successful, they went on to produce the new model and improved it..the current Boxster now is great I have to say..
But in Singapore, if you have the money, why don't drive a better car? I have seen women driving 911 Carreras and not Boxster..MOST Singaporeans like to show off, period. No money, die die must show off..So when $250,000 can get him/her a rather high-end continental saloon (like the 730Li) already, he/she don't want..must go buy the "cheapest" car in Porsche's range..You might have owned a Porsche, but people who knows about cars will be thinking: "Cheapest way into Porsche ownership.."
I'm sorry to say this, but this is what most Singaporeans will think when they see someone driving a Boxster..Maybe not in other countries..but that's the way it is in Singapore..
First problem: 911..their 911 is one of their problems..Porsche has to use the 911 to spawn a lot of other models like the Carrera S, Carrera 4S, Turbo, GT2, GT3, GT3 RS, Targa..no doubt all drive with a different feel more or less, but ALL these models came from the 911..this makes their 911 looks like just a car with different engine variants..like Merc's S-Class..S300, S350, S500, S63 AMG, S65 AMG..

Now coming to the bane of Porsche's line-up..it's not that their cars ain't well engineered..far from it..their cars are well-known for having very fine handling..the biggest problem is they have rather cheap models which quite a lot of people can afford (e.g Boxster, Cayenne) and very very expensive ones like the GT2/3, Turbo and Carrera GT..this makes their cars very common on the roads..so it's exotic-ness has been diluted somewhat..this is the way it is..it's either you choose exclusivity and high profit but low sales, or boost your sales and lose some of your exclusivity and yet have high profits too..Porsche chose to dilute their car's exotic-ness in exchange for sales volume..They are doing it very successfully though..But in my eyes, at least, Porsche cannot be considered a supercar producing company..it can only be considered as a marque that produces high-end, high-performance cars..Porsche can't be placed in equal respect to, lets say, Lamborghini or Ferrari..
