How many km per full tank is considered good?

Hi,
my friend is thinking of buying a car.
he just wants to know how many km should a car of 1.6 or even 1.5 litre travel to use up the entire full tank of gas.
Please advise :
1.5 litre car: x km/tank
1.6 litre car : y km/tank
* pls indicate the tank capacity.
* note: I am talking about normal city driving for auto cars. If you have numbers for manual, pls indicate as well.
I wish to find out how much is considered good utilization. And how do you determine the capacity of a full tank when you ask the uncle to top up? -

First time, personally top up full tank, remember the price, next time, go top up, just tell the uncle roughly how much.

If the car gives you 13km/liter and the tank can hold 25 liters, then a full tank will give you 13 x 25 = 325 kmOriginally posted by reddressman:Hi,

Given that the crude oil price might hit US$100 soon, go for one with the best possible mileage, unless of course, he/she is not going to actually use it but to keep at home for emergency use. -

Honda Civic 1.8A can clock up to 15-16km/l.

There are a lot more variables than just engine capacity when comparing FC. Mods, tyre size, driving style, turbo or NA, 4WD/RWD/FWD, different manufacturers, synthetic or mineral oil, car weight, etc.
As an indicator, efficient Jap cars will give you max:
14km/l for 1.5liter engine (e.g. Vios)
12km/l for 1.6liter (e.g. Corolla)
10km/l for 2liter (Camry)
Some Honda cars give even better FC (e.g. Jazz) and Hyundai cars usually give poor FC. Sunny has poor FC but Latio is similar to the above.
All the above based on talking with frens and personal experience.
By the way, Yamaha Spark gives 50+ km/l -
I'm only getting 6-7km/l on a 3L engine. but i think that's fair since both my father and i are very heavy footed.

my non-SP mazda 3 sets me back at 10-11.5km/l.

actually having the right power also will improve FC...for eg my dads 2.4 camry does 12km/l...unlike the 10km/l u guys stated for the 2L camry....and back in those days my dads W124 E220 consumed less petrol than the lower end E200 model....so having the right amt of power helps...

my mark x 2.5l is doing abt 8.2-8.7km/l.

Usually, people don't wait till tank is completely empty before refilling and even a little bit left may last another say 20 to 100 km. a little oil makes a lot of difference.
Also, I like to say that I think x km / litre figures derive from xx km per tank. altho we know how much we pump each time, we may not know exactly how many km is run using this amount of petrol. The ideal way , i think is to empty the tank completely and then fill it full which should be the capacity of the tank and then drive until it emptys and get the km.
That is what prompted me to ask what is the basis for people's mileage figures. -
If you want good mileage, get a car like Honda Civic Hybrid.

Anyone knows an accurate way to measure full tank and how many km your car can go ? people can say their car FC is 10km/l lah, 14km/l lah. but how did they measure that? to compare, we need to use the same yardstick. -

take note of the amt of petrol pumped(on the fuel pump).Divide the km on the trip odometer by the litres pumped in. -
