Need some advice here... Assuming I manage to find a buyer, how do I actually go about to sell my existing car registration number (a.k.a car plate number)? If I still keep my car, how do I get a replacement number if I sold my exisiting? ![]()
Ask LTA lah. How we know?
You need to transfer the car to the buyer. (this involve getting insurance and paying transfer fee). Once this is done, he need to do a number retention ($100). At this time LTA will give a new number to this car. He then need to transfer the car back to you. (Transfer fee again).
So you see, LTA earn alot especially if the car is new and expensive.
BTW what number plate you selling? If not those single digit, double digits or super nice number may not worth it.
Thanks Ody for your advice. It looks like I can also ask the buyer to transfer his car to me and then do the transfer process.
Someone has expressed interest (leaving behind his name card on my wind screen wiper) in buying over my "8" number.
I do not intend to sell my number but just curious to know about the process. ![]()
the number "8" will only be valuable if it's in the EF range.
numbers like "SFD 8" will not worth much

Yes you can do that but normally he won't want to ask his Ownership will increase by 2.
If you do intend to sell yr "8" in future do let me know. Cash buyer.
Thanks Ody.
It makes sense. Unless the person is a trader who uses a near 10-year car just to buy/sell numbers.
