SINGAPORE: A market at the Sin Ming estate started free lunchtime parking in May last year, reaping in a 25 percent increase in business.
Prior to having free parking, business at the Shun Fu market had seen a steady decline for the past seven years because it is located off the main roads and has narrow lanes where buses cannot enter.
But with free lunchtime parking from noon to 2pm, Mondays to Saturdays, business has improved tremendously.
There will be free parking at the market for the next three months as their agreement with the Housing and Development Board has been extended to May 2008.
Two other shopping centres on Defu Lane and Taman Jurong have free lunchtime parking as well. — CNA/so
