if i helped my friend to jump start his car, will it cause my car's batt lifespan to shorten?
if u have to jump start it doesent it mean the battery's already flat???????
if u do it the right way theres no much harm
a flat battery itself is already consider a damaged battery. It's not likely to retain and reach it optimum charge capacity like it was before.
i think it's time to change the battery. If you have to do so, it means there's some problem somewhere. Get it checked, for safety purposes
actually he is only asking about his own battery which is not the empty one
You only need a few volts to jump start your fren's car. You are not powering his ipod, radio, air-con, etc.....
Once his car is started, his car engine will take over to power his car and you can go home to sleep.
Well, if you are worried that your battery has dip by that few volt, keep your engine on or drive around for a few min to let your alternator charge.
Usually, when the batt goes flat, it's either owner forgot to switch electical appliances off e.g air-con, lights, harzards, radio, etc...; or turned on such appliances on without the engine; or the batt is near it's lifespan; or that the alternator is defective.
Check his habits and send the car in for a routine checkup.
I'm a layman but I think Playmemory or other pros may be able to advise you more on this subject.
Good luck.
is the battery damaged or the alternator not charging or the battery become flat due to on headlights overnight etc
if first then the battery is already dead... obviously. if second or third then just let the car run for awhile the battery will be recharged. jumpstart won't damage the battery, unless u connect the jumper wrongly...
