Although I don't condemn the whole lot of taxi drivers out there when there is still some good ones. Personally I think they are the worst drivers in Singapore. As a road user, how often have u seen taxi drivers stopping abruptly in front of u, suddenly cutting into your lane just because there is somebody flagging for a taxi, causing u to slam hard on your brakes to avoid a collision behind. Purposely accelerating hard or driving very closely to the vehicle in front to prevent u from filtering in, flash high beams or show u the finger when they drive by, etc are just some of their problematic attitude.
Personally, I think they love people to crash into their rear. So they don’t give a damn whether they make sudden turns or sudden stops. Speaking of lost income, they are more than happy to file claims against your insurance. Adding in their lost of income and repair costs, which will usually come up to a huge sum of money. While they stay at home and happily shake their legs when they send in their vehicles in for repair. Not only are they endangering the lives of other road users especially motorcyclists, they are a pest to other road users as well.
I understand they have a family to feed, abide increasing rental and fuel costs, but that does not give them a reason to drive so recklessly. We all work for a living and dealing with stress are part and parcel of life. I just hope that taxi companies can really take serious action against those errant taxi drivers who think they are the kings of the road. I’m one of those road user pissed off by most attitude problematic taxi drivers too but nevertheless, ran into some pretty good ones too
Like it or not....Drivers have to face this on the roads everyday....
Hence, just keep a safe distance from them wherever possible.
Taxi drivers have no choice either. They need to do everything within their mean to get passangers. Passengers = Revenue.
As much as I wish to empathize with them, that does not mean they can drive without due consideration to other road users. Safety, be it theirs or others, should be everyone's top priority.
Not all taxi drivers are that bad....Seeing taxi drivers horning relentlessly at other taxi drivers are pretty common too. But still, I will not drive too close to taxis.
I actually got a very BAD experience with this taxi driver. I won't say much, but all I can say is, I won't be surprised if he got into an accident, but he better don't cause I'm his passenger.
There was a point of time where he had to change lanes just to prevent hitting the car infront when he braking, this shows that he was speeding. It was on the expressway btw.
Another one was when he made a U-turn at the lane opposite of Suntec's convention centre. He went in at a speed of nearly 50 KM/H and I swear I was scared shit. He didn't even stopped to check for traffic, he just went in assuming that there was no car..
I ever see a taxi driver driving in the wrong way before... Luckily, only 1 bus came and the bus driver stopped the bus for him to drive into the correct road.
TS describes the average male Singaporean driver aged 20 to 40 driving habits, not just taxi drivers.

Actually its government, yes I am looking at you, the lightning symbol, that is to blame for increasing the rental.
it's not only in singapore. we have it here in toronto too.. try having to slam on the brakes when the roads are icy.
Regardless of what they do, it is still human instincts to jam the brakes in whatever situation that requires stoppage.
No matter how experience you are, you will still panic, but it is how you react which is important.
I met a few who doesn't car about safety at all.
There's a taxi coming out from the bus stop. I high beamed as he keep on inching out. I'm on the left lane. But he doesn't care at all! He just straight away drive out from the bus stop! Had to jam brake and change lane to prevent accident. I started honking at him and he pointed middle finger. ![]()
There's also a taxi which changed lane and doesn't signal at all. It happened at the flyover at bukit timah near NP. It just keep on zig zag without signalling.(Ok. Not only taxi does this. Alot of other drivers as well).

Dangerous act from the taxis but they are pretty common....
I also kana a lot of taxi hoggers on the road. They dunno purposely or clueless one.
All the time on the road doesn't make one driver more safety indeed more reckless,Some love to show off thier skills in driving Turbodiesels.
That's reality...

I like the idea of isolating the taxis into special lanes but let's give buses the priority when it comes to bus lanes.
it will be good to see taxpayers $$$ to paint and build road being maximise.
maybe yellow lanes taxi can use together with bus
red lanes for bus only.
sometimes yellow lanes are totally empty during peak hours and the other roads jam pack ???
As for that, we need to monitor the roads for a period of time to see if those roads really deserve bus-lanes or not...
there was once when a taxi drove at snail's pace in front of me. when i overtook him, i saw that he was like chatting happily with his passenger/fren. huh......? if u really wanna talk and am not v proficient in talking n driving properly at the same time, perhaps do it in a coffeshop and not hog the road?
