Hi folks,
I meant 'more oil guzzling' as all cars are oil eaters. :P
I wonder why american cars are known to be generally powerful but bulky or big and heavy and oil guzzlers more so than japanese car , hp for hp?
is it because they could not come up with better technology?
but technology is mobile as in anyone with money can own the technology right?
and usa is so huge got a lot of talents right?
so, just a question i have all this while.
ps: i am only speaking 'in general'. In life there will always be exceptions. ;)
you mean "fuel" ?
cuz their cars have bigger engines... and are generally automatic.
in the US gas is cheap. it's around 70singapore cents per liter. (US 1.50/ gallon). so they prefer huge gas guzzling cars. even a corolla there is 2.4 liter. a camry can be up to 3.5 liters and a chevy impala, an american car in the camry's class, has a model with 6.2(!!!!) liter engine. with 300+ bhp.
of cuz, their technology is probably also noober than the japanese. but it probably boils down to the fact that there's no incentive for them to create more fuel economic vehicles since gas in the domestic market is cheap. and most of their business is in the domestic market. notice how the push for other sources of fuel has dropped much since the price of crude oil plummeted.
hey unclebutcher, i like the reasons you provided. Very logical leh :)
i thought korean cars are well known to be high in consumption?
