The next generation In-vehicle Unit, or dual-mode IU, will be available for cars from end June.
But the Land Transport Authority will make them available for new taxis and other vehicles from tomorrow.
The new IU is developed by the Land Transport Authority.
It’s designed to accept both the existing NETS CashCards and new CEPAS-compliant cards such as the new CEPAS-compliant ez-link card.
Motorists with vehicles fitted with the dual-mode IU can use the new CEPAS-compliant ez-link card for ERP payments immediately.
However, they can’t use the new ez-link card with the dual-mode IU for parking payments just yet until the systems are progressively upgraded from October.
Vehicle owners are not required to change their current IU to the new IU.
But those wishing to make the change can do so at LTA Authorised Inspection Centres for $150 before GST.
The new IU was first introduced for motorcycles in September last year.
To date, about 8,000 motorcycles have been fitted with the new IU since it was introduced.
