I don't mean to be rude, but if people listened to dealers who tell the 'truth', then a lot of us would be buying new cars again and again. It just doesn't make sense for the dealer who is actually a salesman, to destroy his future livelihood by teaching you how to make your car last as long as it can. There was this guy at Mazda who told me the 6 could be pulled up to the redline and should be for the first 1000 km so as to expose the pistons and seals to the full range of operating specifications. I know that's a partial truth, but up to the redline? I don't think so!Originally posted by Atobe:The safetest way is to follow the advise or instructions of the car dealer, from whom you have purchased the new car.
this is probably the reason why he/she started a thread on this in the first place,,,,,Originally posted by PeRsEuS:I don't mean to be rude, but if people listened to dealers who tell the 'truth', then a lot of us would be buying new cars again and again. I was looking more on information like varying speeds, stop-start patterns, warm up idling patterns and such.
Originally posted by PeRsEuS:My style has always been to keep it under 90km/hr and under 3000 RPM at all times. Drive at varying speeds in varied gears to expose the parts to different driving conditions. I've always used mineral oil for the first 7000-8000 miles as the friction is higher thus it can wear out the rough edges better compared to synthetic which will make the pistons so slick against the cyclinders that no wearing down of the burrs will be done at all?
Does anyone else have a different opinion?
