Neither cheap nor cheerful when maintanence costs start adding up. ![]()
Yes initial layout cheap, but honestly really not recommended..
there's a good reason why people are starting to dump 8/2011 at sub-10k prices. i thought about getting one myself, but there's a good reason why they're so cheap.
the cheapest car on the market by depreciation is ironically the W124 now.

the 16V one is worth buying.. bullet-proof solid, and hey, it's still a merc!
I can't see the link. How many owners owned that car before?![]()

Third Party F&T. That is only if you have fully paid for your car - ie no loan outstanding. It also means that in the event of an accident, you are unable to self-claim your insurance, which usually means a trip to the scrapyard..
normalboi is right, insurance premiums have been increasing year to year, even though the ESI is an old car, I think they may still classify it as sports, and your profile (less than 26, less than 3 yr driving exp), expect 4 digit premiums in the range of 2-4k for comprehensive coverage.
Hi nightsky87, third party F&T means what? let say i buy this civic with full amount of 8.8k, can i go for this insuarance thingy? How much will i have to pay? for how long?
Fire and Theft. Yes if your car is fully paid for you can get a quote for third party fire and theft insurance. Take note when you buy a car, you have to pay the first insurance premium upfront for the year. Do take note that the 8.8k usually does NOT include Transfer Fee (payable to LTA I think), all misc admin fees from these 2nd hand car dealers, and possibly Road Tax depending on when the road tax expires. The insurance premium and transfer fee must be paid upfront including the 8.8k.
I think insurance easily 3k for your age?
Sian ahhh. I was wanting to buy this VTEC car. bt knowing abt compulsary insurance thingy, is lyk 1/2 sian. thinking of getting the lousiest insurance lyk a few 100? LOLS!
car getting older.
but insurance getting more expensive.. wtf?
Yeah lah, wtf man. I still happy happy think that my 9k will be enough for this ride. serious ah? no cheap insurance?

Hi bro,
No cheap insurance in the market.. Many companies will not want to cover you because you are too young.. <21 years old and less than 3 years driving experience.. Most likely, only NTUC and AIG may consider covering you, and most of the plans quoted to you will have an excess in it..
Usually 1k excess, or up to 3k excess.
What I mean by excess is that in the case of any accident, you want to claim your insurance, you have to bear the first 1K or 3K SGD repair cost. Let's say your repair as quoted is 6k, you pay 3k SGD and the insurance company pay the other 3K for you.
At my age (24 and 4 years driving exp), they still consider me as young driver and my the plan i took up has $500 excess in it. Heard that some companies consider 30 and above as "Not young drivers"
Just for your info, I paid 3k for my insurance premium. 10% NCD.
Recommended Insurer: AIG
Not Recommended: NTUC (Slow claims, lousy service)
Ohh, ok thanks! But may I know roughly how much per year will my insurance be then?Considering my age and driving experience. The cheapest can go to hw much?
Errr... a bit hard lar.. depends on what you cover.. But for your age, it can easily go up to 5 or 6k..So if you weigh the pros and cons, I would not recommend you take the 1.6L Honda Civic ES
I would recommend the Toyota Starlet.. also registered in 1991.. At least you will save a lot on road tax and insurance.Take note that the Toyota Starlet, you can also add in GT kits, Quad headlamps, Spoiler (if not installed) to make it look nice.
Factors affecting insurance premium:
1. Age of driver
2. Driving Exp
3. Engine CC
4. Normal or Turbo ?
5. NCD.
ESI (1991):
Road Tax - 1,200 / year(rough estimate)
FC - Lousy
Insurance Premium: High
Starlet (1991):
Road Tax - 588 / year
FC - Excellent
Insurance Premium - Lower than ESI
Hmm, can i then ask my father to buy the insurace for the car? then i be the 2nd driver. btw, my dad alr have his insurance for his car. is it possible?
Yes, you can. But, the car must be registered in your father's name instead of your name.
And no, cannot use the insurance from his car. Each car needs their own insurance.. You must see which company you go to.. different insurance companies got different packages.. If you get the more expensive ones, they will cover more than 1 driver.. But as i mentioned earlier on, if you are a named driver but less than 26 years and 3 years driving exp, they will add in "excess".
Means if you are the person who got into an accident, have to fork out the excess first before the insurance company will cover your repairs for the remaining cost.
Ohh ic, actually what i meant was can my dad actually buy 2 insurance for 2 cars? I suppose yes. Then for my dad the age of 53 how much will the insurance for the civic be? cheap ?
yes, he can. The government never limit 1 car per person :P
You will have to see your father's NCD (No claim discount) how many percent. Every year of driving without claims will go up 5%.
I am not sure whether he can use his NCD for your ESI since he already used it to purchase insurance for his own car.
That, you have to check with insurance companies..
:)
Ohh okok, thanks man, you are of so much help with context to my understanding of insurance. 2 thumbs up for u bro.![]()
