OPC allowed on the road at these timings:
Weekdays :7pm - 7am
Saturday : 3pm onwards
Sunday and Public Holidays: Whole Day
If you need a car on normal days, not advisable. If you need to drive on a normal day 7am -7pm on weekdays or 7am - 3pm on saturdays, need to display a $20 day coupon on your car.
Can get from any Singapore Post Offices.
thanks ^^ i only knew about the weekdays' timing and the day coupon. but if you work out the number of day coupons you can get using the rebate/lower COE tax, its worth it. but i hate the red plate (the colour). so budget.

There will be rebate upfront 17k. But i heard that the amount rebate given also depends on the type of car you getting.
And you enjoy annual road tax savings of $800.. and your insurance is 15% cheaper (with NTUC).
Not to mention, you enjoy having a nice red plate (gold seal) with white font sitting on your red car (if you get one).
If i never remember wrongly, cars up to 1,600 cc pay only $50 in road tax yearly. Anything above will cost slightly more, but still cheap.
Yes, you can change back to normal plate. Just need to pay the prevailing quota premium (average COE price for your category over the last 3 or 6 months) plus a $100 conversion fee.
woah red car get gold seal? cool!
woah f-ing cheap road tax. hmm. considering red-plate.. XD when you say "average COE price for your category over the last 3 or 6 months" meaning that you pay the COE price X last 3-6 mths? *confused*

Well... from what I see from most pricelists, the red plate costs around $140 while those black ones costs from $30 odd... they are included in the overall price of the vehicle so you dun really see it. ![]()
to TS, i think u shld depend on ur own for a car instead of thinking how to psycho your mum for one.As pple have said, owning a car aint that easy . BUT are u still studying?
Originally posted by WhamBamTyMam:P228, you seem to be making a sweeping statement that If parents bought their charge a car, they would be breathing down their necks. Where may i ask this came from? I have friends whos parents bought them cars and yet have total control/freedom over what they want to do. The point is, they are matured enough for their parents to trust them. They arent old, way younger than you even.
it's not a 'sweeping statement' as you made it out to be. those who get total freedom (like your friends) are obviously the ones whose parents chose to buy them cars.
they are not like TS who has to think of ways to 'psycho' mama to buy a car for him. means for those like TS, their parents will breathe down their necks for sure.

Hi,
I think you dont quite understand yet.
The amount of money you pay to renew or extend your COE is based on the average COE price over 3 months for the category your vehicle falls in.
Imagine:
Month 1: 7000
Month 2: 6500
Month 3: 6000
So average: (7000 + 6500 + 6000)/3 = 6500
So amount you have to pay to extend or renew your COE for another 10 years will be 6500.
Usually the amount is already calculated and posted in the onemotoring website..
=)
It helps when you need to buy a 2nd hand car which is 8 - 9 years old..

Your friends happen to be one of those "lucky kids"
There are always 2 sides to a coin.. That is the thing:
Parents give them too much freedom such that they go around showing off, drive recklessly, speeding.
All these cultivate bad habits, that eventually lead to what we call "a spoilt brat"
;)
And 1 important thing: How do you know whether the parents trust their kids and think they are matured enough?
Why cant it be that these parents are so busy and do not know what their kids are doing.. and buy cars for them just because they want it?
Did you ask your friend's parents why they wanted to buy a car for their children?
Stop making groundless assumptions. -_-
You say that there are 2 sides to the coin, apparently both sides seem to be the same to you. From the way you speak you sound like a very disgruntled and dare I say jealous or envious adult.
Though i agree that yes there are the black sheeps(showoffs, reckless driving etc), Honestly I feel that the freedom that parents give them do not cause those behavior, instead those are characteristic were cultivated by themselves. Why "face"/"reckless driving" come about? MASS MEDIA... you seriously think that parents would tell their kids "hey son, i buy you this car must go out and showoff okay?!" or "Hey i buy you this car better harness the power, must speed". Its all from everyday life. TV, Movies etc. Making it so glamourous. Definitely not freedom that parents give. Just because the parents gave them freedom doesnt necessarily translate to the child being a showoff.
Secondly, to your "1 important thing". Its because they are my good buddies and I know their parents. Enough said.
You are the one who made endless assumptions on a blind rage. So may i just suggest you dig just a little deeper. stop skimming the surface.
Nothing to be jealous about?
I pay my own instalments, my own road tax, my own insurance, my own ERP, maintenance and parking.
I should be the one who is proud.
At least it is my car..
Not under some parents name..
Don't feel jealous though WhamBamTyMam.
