Hi everyone,
I'm considering in getting a GPS for my car as I often get lost within roads in town area. I kinda need to travel Island wide for my work. I was wondering anyone here have recommendations for GPS systems which is affordable? I know nothing about GPS, so can someone kindly let me know what brand of GPS system should I get and is there any monthly subscription fee?
I'm looking for something that is like below $250, but has good accuracy. Hope someone can give me good advice here, many thanks...
fork out more - get Papago !!!

i am a street directory myself.
I'll sell you my knowledge for $20 ^^

If you wanna get a GPS, can consider the Tibo GPS Navigation System.. They are having a promotion at all Esso/Mobil Fairprice Xpress.. Currently at $159..
Quite a good buy and a reliable brand =)

For iphone 3G ... upgrade your software version to V3.0 then jailbreak. After jailbreak, look for a gps software n install it.
Im using non jailbreak iphone 3G but a friend of mine jailbreak V3.0 and DLed a navigation software that is worth $120. according to him, very useful.
As for the mapking, i only tried it on windows mobile PDA link up with my bluetooth GPS receiver. So you just need a receiver and a PDA. If im not wrong, laptop also can but not sure bout Apple Macbooks
GPS has its limitations. Best is to plan your route the day before.
go get it..with correct direction, u save more money in petrol and time.

Initally, it was quite bad. The GPS needs time to locate the starting position but after that, it was pretty smooth sailing. The startup is almost immediate now.
Has anyone tried the Garmin GPS? Any comments?
hmmm. i dont use GPS. but i heard from some of my friends who travelled to malaysia that its damn useful! so up to u!
Garmin GPS is one of the best in the market.fast start up and reliable maps.

Read some review about it. The map in Garmin units is supposed to simpler, and less uncluttered than our brands, so good for those who are driving alone. Still considering.

is there any other functions?
Very basic.
Teaches you how to get to destinations in their preferred route. U can search for famous eateries, places of interests etc...
Alerts you on ERP, speed cameras and speed limits on the roads.

Oh...pretty cheap. Is that Garmin Nuvi 205? Then, it comes with basic voice prompts (ie Turn left in 50m) . The higher-end model will have voice prompts in street street names, eg " Turn left in 50m into XXX street". Still looking at some models...but not cheap though.
