Hi guys, just wondering are there any techniques for driving auto cars more efficiently? I have been driving manual for years and recently switched to auto, i cannot get use to the car and end up stepping hard resulting in very poor FC. I would like to know:
1. Auto gear changing depends on the RPM? Around what RPM?
2. Maintaing at ~70 results in car staying in 3rd gear?
3. The RPM to maintain after car has changed into top gear? ~2k?
4. Method for faster pickup and changing gears?
I know this is noob but really need some advice
Hmmm…going so technical to drive an auto car ? Unlike manual cars, where you step up, speed up and change gears during pickup, one of the main causes for poor fuel efficiency in auto cars is stepping full steam during pickup and then braking again at high speed. This results in bad FC. Anyway, generally auto cars are less fuel efficient, no matter how you drive it. Pickup speed can also depend on car model. Some performs better than others. Not sure of the gear changing part though.

1) 2000 to 3000, usually at around per 20km/hr for 1 gear
2) 70 - 90 km is already in 4th to 5th gear, depending on car model e.g. 4AT, 5AT
3) i don't know
4) control your foot, step on with smooth movement for smooth AT switching and acceration.
1st
maintian yr RPM at 20000 if u are on highway
normally its would be at 80KM/h - save fuel and u wont get speeding fines
2nd
no need to speed up too fast to pick up speed. maintian at a grace speed (the car behind u might not like its cause u slow, but whos care about the car behind???)
3rd
no need to set yr aircon at high
the lower the best.
4th
there no need to rest yr car for the 1st 5 min when u start yr engine
u can run yr car at the road but do no step too hard on yr accer . this is a proven method that its save a bit of fuel. instead of resting yr car for 5 min when u start yr engine.
5th
im driving a hyundai Getz
notice a at least 80 clik increase in my meter when i follow this concept
from starting 280-320M a full tank at run now
my avg is at 360-400M run per full tank there really a good increase.
