Hey guys I'm just starting to learn driving. 1 question, I was taught on how to move off on a flat road - release to half clutch, depress the acc slightly, then slow release clutch further.
The problem is I'm very scared when releasing the clutch to half clutch(U know what will happen if i over-released), so I'll always take my time, and hence on traffic light and zebra crossing, people will horn at me, ESPECIALLY immdiately after I stop....... the green light comes out :s.
I don't know how some drivers are able to stop and then immdiately drive when I have to change my Gear to 1, slowly half clutch, slowly release acc slightly :(
So I want to ask is "release to half clutch, depress the acc slightly, then slow release clutch further" the only procedure"? I'm thinking if I can just (1)Sightly release acc first, then when want to move off, just slowly release clutch...can?
Unfortunately I don't have car at home. Unfortunately some people don't care what plate you have :(
i heard we'll be able to get a 'feel' of where the half clutch s time goes by and don't have to slow release anymore......but I still can't get the feeling :(
Im asking when stopped, if I can just (1)Sightly release acc first(the clutch is fully depressed of course), then when want to move off, just slowly release clutch...can?
Put half-clutch at stationary when you are about to move off, but put the brakes on at the same time.
You will hear the engine rpm getting lower. If it starts to vibrate, you're gonna stall.
So once you hear the rpm getting lower, just hold it there, and then lift your foot off the brakes and step on the accelerator and release the clutch somemore to the point of vibration but not anymore than that.
You'll cut your reaction time that way and still achieve a smoother move-off that way.
So drivers that I saw everyday stop and move off in 1 second also do these basic steps? They really move off in 1 - 2 seconds when I'm still slowly releasing the clutch :(
What I'm concern is the moment I come to complete stop, the next second I've to move off. Or did those drivers really stop completely?
As you drive more, you'll be able to gauge the half-clutch better, so don't worry too much.
Another trick you can do is to crawl a little forward as you anticipate the traffic to be in your favour to move. From there you simply have to step harder on the accelerator to move off.
As for the stop-go stuff, that's for you to gauge the half-clutch position.
You must be fairly new to L-plate driving in the first place?

you drive more already will become natural one lah. Most important thing is to be relaxed.
Hmm actually I take lesson once a week driving instructor's car. Already drived 4 X 2 hrs on main road.
BTW guys my instructor say half clutch means hearing more noise and some vibration....because of these, I've a hard time getting it. So do I necessarily(a MUST) need to hear more noise and vibration, or release a little bit will do?

Personally I don't like to release my clutch till that state. It is uncomfortably close to stalling. I only do that for slopes. Like I said, you have to listen closely to your rpm as you release your clutch.
But of course if your instructor sings and talks like he does to me, that's another thing altogether. ![]()
And 4 x 2 hrs is not a lot....in fact its very little.
listen closely to your rpm? Hmm care to elaborate? Same as more noise will be heard? lol

If you want to be safe, you can simply look at the tachometer.
Hmm look for? Arh also when there's a need to turn e.g. left immdiately, the meter will be block by steering wheel lol/ I'm really a newbie :D But i want to learn so that my tutor will not nag at me and I'll not obsturct people :(
PMed you

you need more practice, that's all. We know since all Taxi Drivers are fast with manual cars.

For all you know, those cars in front are auto ones.
play cheat ba =) right foot step abit of accelerator.. .left feet release clutch smoothly.. dont dump the clutch.. den okay le.. sure wun die engine =) its all about experience.. next time u will be wondering how did i drive so badly last time ..
The rev must be there ![]()
yeah my instructor tot me how to move off by depressing the accelerator first..then release clutch...
after a few lessons, i found that naturally i depressed shorter timing on the accelerator and clutch control is better...and move off faster
play daytona more and you will drive like F1 drivers very soon ![]()
Manual so mafan, why not convert to auto better right? Need not use both leg for auto! If you depress wrongly before the car move, you kena stall sure will get honk want, trust me..

So instead of releasing clutch to half clutch first, depress acc first also can arh?

yea depress acc first okie ar...
yeah..haha my instructor will scold me during the first few times when i still cant control, i depress too much..anyway i paid for the lesson wat...
so i learnt to listen, got abit of noise can liaoz...my instructor use cloth to cover the rpm during my first lesson, he doesnt believe in looking at it when learning to drive..
he was also quite suprised i nv stalled the engine during my first few lessons lol...
