Do you think the “Turn Left On Red” scheme should be abolished?
Personally I feel the scheme is endangering pedestrians using the TLOR junction. I have seen a few cases where vehicles turning left did not give way to pedestrians and it nearly caused accident. The drivers did not stop at the junction and their attention is on the vehicles coming from the main road rather than people crossing the road.
the TLOR scheme is just another way to speed things up at roads that can get buzy now and then. as a driver myself, i feel that its a good scheme. but at the same time, we must be careful to look out for the lives of pedestrians as well. its not a good idea to abolish a good thing because of one or two bad apples who aren't careful. pedestrians should also take note of such road rules when crossing so that they can be alert of the dangers too
but den again, singapore is a pretty fast pace country, the adults who drive have to drive to work asap, isnt this TLOR scheme pretty dangerous for a country like singapore?
seriously... the drivers dun even care about us even if they see us...
they just keep driving so near u waiting for u to cross... EVEN IF IT IS NOT BUSY... i hope such drivers just die... i am serious... and i spend my 999 post here.. assholes drivers...
but on the other hand, i have seen ONLY a FEEEEEEEEW, few as in really little, drivers that will wait for pedestrians to cross....
drivers normally will give way to others drivers but seldom pedestrians

pull them out of the car, beat them up and scratch their armpits for them.
on the other hand though, yes, few drivers look out for pedestrians. mostly its the bus drivers that do it.

when TLOR green sign is on... the pedestrian light is red... the pedestrian shldnt even be crossing...
who is in the wrong now?
and one more thing... usually when TLOR green sign is on.. the other side on the main road is red light flashing green.. meaning on the main road there are only cars turning right..

i think u make a mistake. r u referring to the left turn green arrow instead?
anyway for me, LTOR places are very few.. there are also many criterias to make a junstion LTOR
LTOR works like a slip road. IT basically means that you can turn left at any time as long it is safe to do so. However nOx is right. If the light is green in my favour and I am turning left, I do not have bother about the trafficc oming from my right and I just have to watch out for pedestrians who are crossing on my left when I am turning. HOWEVER, if the traffic light is red and not in my favour, I will only have to look out for traffic on my right because the pedestrian crossing on my left would be RED MAN still. So I dun understand why would it pose a danger to pedestrians as long pedestrians do not jaywalk.
Do you know why sometimes there's a 'Red Colour Cloth' hanging on a lorry if there is a pole or stick etc. behind the lorry? Why?
but i have to say some pedestrain i see, wah think themselves very zai very clever cross the road b4 the red man become green.. but in fact is the green arrow for the cars to turn... sucker la they...
but i still hate drivers who dun care about ppl safety...
these 2 type of ppl, best is they experience something not fatal but memorable... and rmb that for the rest of their life..

i think they put the red cloth there to warn us that there is an object that could cause danger to other drivers behind them..

Is is? Not because of the distance between the object and behind vehicle?
i guess that was what i wanted to say... the object is protruding out of the boundaries of the lorry. the red cloth is probably there to warn motorists of that fact...

assuming that a granny walks on the pedestrain road during car's red light, but cus she walks slow, the light turns green and car can turn?
sure the car can turn. . . but if the granny is in the way then its normal to let her pass b4 motorists go thru i suppose

Of the car has every right to turn. But of cos if you want to put in such examples, then any mentally sound person would let the granny finish her cross to the other side. Would anyone in the sound mind knock her down just because we have the right of way? But yes, the car has every right to turn.
Not much of TLOR junctions in the West side.
Usually dominated by electronic left green arrows.
tlor stand for what?
Turn Left On Red = T.L.O.R
Hope this help you:)
Yup...
