so.. LTA said public transport ridership had shrunk. Time to increase ERP for stinkaporeans & suck more money from stinkaporeans.
Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates are set to increase by 50-100 per cent, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Tuesday.
From 8-8.30am. the ERP rate for the Ayer Rajah Expressway will increase to $1, up from $0.50.
From 6.30-7pm, the rate for two gantries, eastbound ECP (Marina South) and on slip road from Ophir Road, will increase to $3 from $2, an increase of 50 per cent.
The revised rates will take effect next Monday, Nov 2.
The revision comes after the completion of LTA's quarterly review of traffic conditions on ERP-priced roads and expressways.
The next ERP review will take place in Nov 2009 for the December school holidays.

So smart PAP use the public transport ridership excuse to increase ERP rates.
GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Based on what they increase ERP?
Our expressway getting more congested or Public transport ridership down?
WTF Public transport ridership where got down, siao lah.
Dont tell me the PR all have own transport?
ask all ministers dont drive first lor
then we shall see whether we should follow suit anot
Hi, This two roads always see a lot of traffic going to east of Singapore during this evening and causing traffic jam from 6.30-7pm, the rate for two gantries, eastbound ECP (Marina South) and on slip road from Ophir Road. I think the increase to $3 from $2 is good. Maybe should increase to $5, I will not go into this two roads during the hours. There are many road can link to the east of singapore or people can take MRT or Public Bus.
Also L T A should turn on the gantries at P I E eastbound from West during 500 to 830pm as the traffic jam is getting worst during weekdays evening. The gantries there have been turn on during morning peck hours, why not turn it on during evening peck hours?
Whatever the amounts that LTA decide for the ERP gantries, Singapore has been short changed in that the Road Tax for cars that have not been reduced - when it was increased by more then 100 per cent in 1980s.
The Minister of Transport Mah Bow Tan had then stated that when a operating ERP system is put in place, road tax will be restored to the prevailing levels then.
The ERP has seen more gantries being put up all around the island, with a second tier of ERP gantry inside the business district, when an outer ERP ring of gantries will define the Central Business District.
Have Singaporeans not misled by a PAP Minister - who was conveniently moved from the Ministry of Transport to be the Minister of National Development ?
The PAP Government had made clear decision to tweak the COE system to not only control the growth of the vehicles, but also to adjust revenues for itself by lowering the ownership cost of fleet change needed by Taxi companies owned by the Government, and the COE is also manipulated to increase revenues as and when needed by fixing either the number of COE released or the COE prices.
The reason for a drop in 50 per cent of MRT ridership is due largely to the increases in MRT charges that makes it more expensive for a family to travel by MRT, and also to the extent that it is cheaper to pay for car parking than to ride single on the MRT.
Some of the MRT practices in Singapore do not encourage ridership - such as the collecting of deposits for the passes sold, the last value of term pass do not allow any unlimited distance as it expire in value as practised in Hongkong.

Could you show the Maths by which you arrive at the conclusion that it's more expensive for a family to travel by MRT? And that car parking is cheaper than riding on the MRT?
Regarding the collecting of deposits, are you talking about the 1 dollar deposit or ?
SHHHHhhHhhhhhHHhHHHH.... dont anyhow say things...
Cause if you say that MM lee and the government is corrupt or not performing their duties.. MM lee is going to sue you...

Odds are public transport fares could be raised soon.
For no reason other than to make more profits. ![]()

morning and 6pm plus mrt and bus is always pack, does this consider low ridership ? so must it pack till everyone stack on top of one another than this is call high ridership ?
Actually I do believe even during off peak periods, the trains are quite full as in all seats are usually taken with half the carriage filled with people standing.
I always wonder where all these commuters come from. ![]()
They reduced COE quota last year (because of lack lustre demand for cars due to economic downturn), so that they could increase the COE prices.
So there should be less car than usual on the roads, less cars means less congestion. But now they want to fleece the car owners by increasing ERP.

The train frequencies are very low these days, sometimes you have to wait 5-7 minutes during off peak hours. They try to pack the train to the max at the expense of commuter comfort, so that they can increase profits. ![]()
With the amount of EMF radiation, I will be taking less of MRT and more of buses from now on. ![]()

If you grow wings, they find that their cash inflow from their cash cows are dropping, they will come up with EAP for flying. ![]()
EAP = Electronic Air Pricing
Isn't that always the case, can see from the COE quota, when prices are low, they decrease supply to increase price. ![]()
So is COE suppose to control the population of cars or the cashflow to their pockets. ![]()
I am really amaze how daft some 66% of Singaporeans are, up to now they still haven't seen through the MIW. ![]()

They also believe that having more oppositions in Parliament will make the PM job of "helping the poor" difficult as the PM has to spend more time thinking of ways to fix the oppositions instead. ![]()
