My Toyota G9 is about to reach its 10 year soon and my dad and I have been deciding whether to scrap it. The car is still working completely fine although it has got a high millage of 150k. Comparing the two situations:
If I scrap it, I think I have to pay for the current COE price and I lose the vehicle's paper value as well. Total end up till around 20k+. I can drive for another 5/10 years depending on how long I extend it.
I could have scrap the car to get around 10k+ and have it as a downpayment for a new car. But I will be tied down with a new installment for another 5/7 years.
Any advices?
go with what you think suits you best.
it's an old car, yes.
how do you maintain it?
if you maintain it well and go for regular servicing then shouldn't be a problem squeezing more miles out of it.
10 years & 150k km?
Yep, is it a lot?

not really. I have known some who do 100k in about ~3 years lol
Hmmm. So anymore advices?
keep the car,.
u wont regret,
with a new car , u give the garment 100% of your OMv value. whereas the momey can be use to do up the old car (if you wish) or as a back up for your old car maintenance. thk
my family car is on 100k km in 3 years 4mths.
if your family is okay with the car, then just keep it. ![]()
If you & your dad are comfortable with the car, it is advisable if you keep it. For such old models, spare parts & even reconditioned engine blocks & gearboxes are easily available & it is not as expensive as the newer models.
Those parts for old models are meant to be exported to 3rd world countries & they are sold at a 3rd world country price. Before you get robert by the workshops, you can take your user manual & shop around at Jalan Besar or Serangoon area, where such spare parts are available.
Bro ,
How much Your OMV ? car before May 2002 Get 80% back From OMV .
Use that money Renew COE ?
but I think use that Money Get A 06~05 Car and put as Down payment
or a New Car , With new COE and NEW OMV. less break Down .

That Noting , I just took in a Car a month ago Who brought a Fit.
2008 Sept Honda Civic 1.8 GL and it done 128KM est. . . .
asked around 10 Company to quote Local resale Price.
Guess what ...
7 Company REJECTED.
huh? 128km milleage only? or do you mean 128k km?
I'm thinking that even though you may have maintained it well, it is more or less due to give you quite some major problems soon (with the mileage and number of years on it).
Not too sure about the maintenance of a G9 these days. The number of Altis on the roads way outnumber the Corollas. I believe it may be harder and harder to maintain a Corolla in Singapore.
I think it also depends on what car you will be getting. A new 1.6 Altis costs ~$70K? So I guess it depends on how comfortable you are in paying the difference after claiming the paper value of your current car.
Change car la...Nowadays the norm is to change car every 2-3 years.
My father have driven and changed subaru, daihatsu, honda, hyundai, toyota and nissan in the span of 10 years.

Your father is rich. Not everyone can change with that frequency like your dad do..

Nah not rich. I think i overexaggerated. I think he changed six cars over 15 years, not 10 years. All second hand.
The trick is to always buy second hand cars as they are much cheaper. Try to buy car that are about 2-3 years old so that they still appear new.
