Hi all,
I just passed my TP test this morning. I'm very excited to start driving on the road. But the feeling of driving out without an instructor besides is scary...
I'm also lost about parking without the help of poles... Any method?
Please post any tips that may be useful for a newbie. TQ people!
Go learn again, the centres are now teaching to park without poles :p
Practice at Multi storey carpark using pail instead of poles with side, back and blind spot as your guide. This will make you learn faster. The technique at driving schools is just reference cant really use it on the real world. One advice dont try to tailgate Taxis at any cost.Either overtake them or just follow a distance if in single lane.Refrain from high beam road hogger motorist on e fast lane if there's more than 3 lane roads.Overtook them on their left.Remember to signal.Dun follow those who doesnt.Always check your blind spot while turning a have a quick check on the mirrors(2 sec) while driving.Anticipated what's on your surrounding. You never knew what those gugujiao motorist might do while driving
you from bbdc?
im from bbdc, just pass a week ago.
hmm, you need to change the style of parking, instead of position-ing your car at 90 degrees to go into the slot, put your car to 45 degrees.
Nope, i'm from CDC.
I have this phobia of parking, scared I bang into people's car whilst parking. Is there anyway of perfecting this art of parking? Can I use the "pole" method but substituting the poles for the corners of the other cars?
More tips, please!
put on P plate.
park on high level carpark.
when you are better skill then squeeze with the car in lower level carpark.
BE GRACIOUS TO OTHER CAR. GIVE WAY SOMETIME.
Take it easy...and drive slowly...during park check side mirrors carefully also.....u will soon get use to it lol....
tell us your first experience when you go onto the any of the expressways during peak hours ![]()
i've only tried once for parking since passing my tp.
anw, how much points you got? which time slot you took? for your tp.
.
Place your car with lots of open space around it. Understand how the turning radius of your car works, is it a front wheel, 4 wheel or back wheel drive.
Walk around the car, with two fingers on the paintwork, tracing and counting your small walking steps to know from bonet to passenger side front wheel, how many small steps all around.
Then when you have to do turning, turn slow and count and imagine your small steps you took to walk around your car, that roughly will help you estimate how much more clearance you have.

I got 18 points & took the 11.45 am slot.
woah, heng uh
do be careful while on e road, some drivers are just !@#$%^&*
you get what i mean
Some drivers really siao one.
They knew that cars in the main road have the right of way over those entering from the slips roads but they still chiong ahead and nearly kiss the car that I am driving.
Hence, getting a licence just unlocks you to yet another whole new level of driving experience.
Sigh...
and another thing, dont judge drivers by their looks.
some may look kind but can kill with their driving.
i met this auntie on the road last week, seem okay, scali the way she drive can drive me mad.
cut lane nvr signal, cut DIRECTLY infront of me, forcing me to slam brakes, dont bother to even give me a hand signal to say sorry -.-
bth
I have mainly 2 concerns which I hope you experienced people can shed some light.
How do I park, vertical or horizontal, without hitting the cars parked on the sides?
For example I would like to drive from Bishan to Sengkang, how would I know the route? (Where to turn, which expressway to take... etc.)
Please teach!
parking takes time..for vertical parking, best is to reverse in from a 45 degree angle, and check both side windows..if you're in the clear, you're in the clear.. parallel is much harder to learn just by words alone..u needa go and practice and develop ur own method.
i havent done a single parallel parking since i got my license ![]()
Just wondering, a driving license have any expiry date withing how many years or lifetime?
Get a car insurance. You just don't know how much you'll save if you do. What's more, you can save your car and your life from a lot of payments just in case you figure yourself in an accident.
Also, don't forget to have a good record for your driving. This way, you can take advantage of incentives or bonuses.Singapore has such a thing called No claim discount, where you can get a percentage drop from your usual premiums. Of course, it's highly necessary that there's no claim made against your insurance policy. The more years you don't have a claim against, the higher will be your percentage discount.

lifetime(assuming driver is healthy)...but if the photocard licence has details blurred out...like photo not clear...TP can ask U to make a new one.
A note for those people planning to get more than 1 class of driving/riding...after U pass your 2nd TP test...be it riding or driving...if TP finds that your photo in the photocard licence not good enough..they can withhold your test results until U get a new photo and pay 25 bucks to make a new photocard.

the good old streetdirectory book...GPS....or Google Maps...got street view somemore...haha
parking ar...go find a multi-storey carpark....go to the upper deck....make sure there are no vehicles anywhere near to where U will be practising(in case U panick)...then find a lot with a pillar beside it...that pillar will act as the side door of an imaginary car..park with the pillar on ur right...when U are ok....then pillar on ur left...using your side mirrors.Must remember your slow speed control.
Better to hit the pillar and damage your car than to hit someone else's car...the pillar is strong enough unless U panick and step on the accelerator.....
After U can park vertically....go out and have some road experience....parallel parking requires "feel" of the vehicle...not something U can practice like some maths question.
but yes...do try out parallel parking once U feel U are ok with it.Its a test of your skills.:)

So it is a need to adjust the side mirror to see the lane marking on the floor when reversing?
sometimes parking is about "feeling"
reverse a bit... check mirror...
gut feel say ok then reverse more...
if not move forward and reverse again...
